If the Magic had the number 1 pick

If the Magic had the top pick in the draft would you go with Rose or Beasley. Its an interesting possibility for both players. Beasley looks like the perfect PF to play with someone like Dwight. Rose gives us much of the things we wish we could get from Jameer. If the Magic had the top pick which one of the two would you take.

I think Beasley because of the reason you mentioned, but I'm one of those guys who tends to always want to take the big.

Rose.

We already have a big man. We need to improve our second most important position, and that's the pg. If Rose turns out to what people say he will become, then there's no other logical choice. Having a pg and a big man, then you can build around them.

Pg- Rose
Sg- Bogans/Evans
Sf- Shard
Pf- Brand (turk+nelson+whatever else in a trade)
C- Howard.

My thoughts exactly. You pick the BPA, which makes Turk expendable.

Either one would put us over the top.

Rose / Evans? / Hedo / Shard / Dwight

or

Nelson / Hedo / Shard / Beasley / Dwight

Beasley. I just think he's a can't-miss talent.

I don't see Rose as a Chris Paul level passer. Really I think Rose is really a more pass first version of Steve Francis. I hear people saying 20 and 10 pass first point guard but were talking about a point guard in college that averaged 5 assist per game and averaged a bunch of turnovers. I think he will be better than Jameer but I doubt he will be 20 and 10. More like 20 and 8.

Beasley is a big that is nothing like Dwight. Michael is the prototype PF you could have next to Dwight. Someone that can score on the perimeter and midrange. While being one of the better rebounders to come into the league next year.

That said despite the fact that IMO Beasley is the better player. Pretty much a lock for 20 and 10. While Rose likely has the higher bust factor. He could be Deron Williams with more athleticism or Antonio Daniels. Beasley probably would be much better than Rose his first 2 years in the league. This team however needs someone that is dynamic with the basketball in there hands. Someone that can drive and get right in front of the rim. Someone that definitely could defend the PG position.

I think both Miami and Chicago should take Beasley if given the chance. Its a much better chance that another PG could be available to them down the road than a 20 10 PF. For Orlando we would need to start investing in our backcourt and Rose would go along way with that.

I think either of them would help our team. Rose would fill our PG hole and would be ideal for this team.

Beasley would just be a force to reckon with, with Dwight in the front court. It's a tossup for me, IMO.

I would trade the pick to either the team that has the number 2 pick or the team that has the number 3 pick, and use whichever pick you get (has to be in the top 3) and take OJ Mayo. That way you get a sg, and hopefully some good extras by trading the first over all pick. Honestly, I would rather have Mayo on the Magic than Beasley or Rose.

it would be a lot easier to get rid of rashard lewis if we packaged him with the number 1 pick.

not saying that we would want to, of course.

just sayin'....

Both Rose or Beasley are likely future All Stars, but the question is whether either will be more.

Rose could develop like Billups and Nash; slowly out of the gate, but become a real star from Mid-career.

Beasley could be the next Odom, or the next K-mart. Good solid PFs. But as he's undersized, and not particularly powerful, Beasley does not look to be an absolutely dominant PF.

Whilst the Magic could use Beasley more than Rose, a team always must tab BPA. That looks to be Rose this year.

(In the end, I suspect that neither Rose nor Beasley will emerge as this draft's best player. Both are simply sure NBA prospects.

Rose is the better player, I run away with a future top 5 PG.

I know expectations are high on these two top picks, but I honestly dont see these as guys I would want to build my team around. I really dont know what it is about these two either. I know there good and are going to be good. But I think thats all I see them as is both being really good team players but not All Star level or Superstar levels. If I had either pick one or two I think I would honestly trade the pick.

Also I hope the Magic pick either Hibbert or Hickson. Id much rather find a SG through FA than the draft this year. Also its really hard to find a good bigman where as we have tons of PGs and SGs already.

It would be nice to see either a lineup of

Nelson/Childress(FA)/Lewis/Howard/Hibbert Bench - Dooling/Evans/Bogans/Hedo/Battie
Nelson/Childress(FA)/Lewis/Hickson/Howard Bench - Dooling/Evans/Bogans/Hedo/Battie

I'd trade it too like I said, so we're in agreement.
Nelson/Childress(FA)/Lewis/Howard/Hibbert Bench - Dooling/Evans/Bogans/Hedo/Battie
Nelson/Childress(FA)/Lewis/Hickson/Howard Bench - Dooling/Evans/Bogans/Hedo/Battie

I like the Howard/Hibbert line up because I think Howard is the EXACT power forward that Hibbert needs to play with to be good in this league; atheletic and quick. Hibbert can get easy buckets and rebounds that is much needed with a shooting team.

I'd go for Beasley. Its much harder to find a high impact big than a guard plus given that Miami wants Rose We could trade down and get another asset.

To me Rose is overrated. Comparing him to Wade, Williams or Paul?

Beasley is the obvious choice. A starting front court of Howard, Beasley and Lewis, with Hedo coming off the bench would dominate the east like no other.

Beasley is nothing like Kmart or Odom. Really Beasley reminds me of a young in shape Charles Barkley. Barkley was a undersized young kind of SF/PF that could go in the post or go outside. They have similar personalities.

I'm not sure why people always say Beasley is Best player available. Do they realize that Beasley averaged 26 and 13 in 31 minutes. Durant last year played a lot more minutes to get those numbers. Beasley playing Durant minutes his numbers translate to nearly 30 and 15. Thats a freshman putting up some of the biggest numbers ever. Before the tournament Beasley was pretty much a lock for number one. Many thought Rose was closer to Bayless and Mayo but Beasley was on a different level.

Most will agree with you that Beasley is a lock for NBA starter quality. Unless he goes mental, or he visits Livinsgton's knee-conditioning trainer, he is a solid 10 year+ starter in the NBA. That's gotta be worth a serious look for a top 3 pick. My point: will Beasley be on of the five best PFs of his generation? There I am less sure. I am more sure that Rose has such potential.

Neither Rose nor Beasley is an LBJ-type. Neither is a guarantee for the HoF that LBJ was out of high school. This draft class is deep, but it lacks guarantees at any level of draft slot-selection.

As I said before, in ten years, I suspect that neither Beasley not Rose will be graded as the best player from this draft class. But it is VERY unclear who the other guy might be. But that's the beauty of this draft year.
