So, Ricky Davis anyone??

I was sittin here watching sportscenter, and they showed Miamis top scorers from last year and I fogot all about Davis...The guy can score, pass, and rebound..Not to mention he is big and an okay defender...

He will be a good signing for the MLE, or is he older than I think? But I know for a fact that we could get him for MLE if not less, and is very able to put up Maggette like numbers on our team...

What do you guys think?

Over the last 7 or so years his Scoring has been in the mid teens, his rebounds around 5, and assists around 4-5..Not to mention mid 40's in FG, last 2 years his 3 pointers have been 39% 40% and his FT's are always around 80%..Plus he has averaged over a steal a game for his entire career...

Not to mention, he turns 29 in september, so he is still young, basically Maggz' age.

You think he is worth it?? I have heard from many people Otis will make a signing from left field, that's pretty far left.

i mean he's good for points, he will always get his points...not the smartest guy, but he's consistent...if he was cheap, i would take him...but he probably wont be...

He's really not that bad of a player.

Yeah, he had some infamous problems during his Cavs days, but he seems to have become a better, more mature player over the past few seasons. I wouldn't mind the Magic at least taking a look at him.

I have been a big fan of his since he stopped being such an ego (i.e. when he left Cleveland). He would be a perfect team guy and a huge upgrade at the #2.

If he could handle being 4th option and was willing to sign for the MLE, then I would do it. His lack of on court intelligence would not be too much of a problem in a run and gun offense, as long as he could keep a lid on his chucker tendencies. And if SVG can keep him focused on defense, he will be a definite improvement on Mo and Bo there.

Well theif, sir, upon further research, Davis was paid nearly 7 mil in the final year of his last contract, and due to the fact all of his number dropped( Due to all of the scorers in Miami) he won't be asking for a raise, and to be honest, MLE sound about right for him, by the end of it he'll make around 7ish again... 4YR MLE (5.7 yr 1, 6.1 yr2,6.4 yr 3, 6.7 yr 4 [age 33]) I think that is a plenty fair price to pay for a player who will easily average 14pts...5 rebs...5 asts...1 stl Combine that with the fact he he a true 6'7" body that would EASILY be a large upgrade in our guard dept. Then we get J,Will or Duhon LLE and wala, we have the making of a good team, especially if we end up taking a big tonight with 22 and not a single trade...OR maybe Donte Green falls...

Nelson/Williams/?
Davis/JJ/Bogans
Lewis/Green/?
Hedo/Alexander Johnson??/Cook
Howard/Battie/Gortat

Alot of scoring on that roster, and a good bit of size and athleticism..

I agree that he would be an upgrade at the 2, though I think he is moving into that "premier sixth man" part of his career. I might still start Bogans (assuming Mo and Dooling are gone) and give Davis 20-25 minutes a game unless he demonstrates a real commitment to playing defense every minute he's on the floor.

Also, I think Davis might have to settle for less than the MLE. He might be looking at something like $15m over 3 years.

It's worth putting him in the conversation along with guys like Childress and Pietrus.

Otis wouldnt go after him. Unless he gets him at a huge discount.

if we use part of the mle on him i wouldnt mind taking him... he would be an upgrade over last year at the 2g... if we could have him on the bench he could be a serious scoring punch on our second unit... i just dont like the fact that every team he gets on is in shambles... he is a definate option

I'll never forgive him for shotting at the wrong basket to try and get his 10th rebound for a triple double.

Rickey Buckets wouldnt be bad even for the MLE, we could maybe get speights at the 22 or even trade down with redick to pick him up if need be. Buckets would be good for 30-34 min a game and 13-17 pts. not a bad defender either

Oh, gag. Every team he has been on has sucked. And he has been on three or four. What is the chance that is a coincidence? I'd say not very good.

1998-99 Charlotte Hornets 26-24
1999-00 Charlotte Hornets 49-33
2000-01 Miami Heat 50-32
2001-02 Cleveland Cavaliers 29-53
2002-03 Cleveland Cavaliers 17-65
...
2003-04 Cleveland Cavaliers 35-47
2003-04 Boston Celtics 36-46
...
2004-05 Boston Celtics 45-37
2005-06 Boston Celtics 33-49
2005-06 Minnesota Timberwolves 33-49
2006-07 Minnesota Timberwolves 32-50
2007-08 Miami Heat 15-67

So, Davis has been on more bad teams than good ones. Looking at the 2003 trade from the Cavs to the Celts (when Davis stopped being a prima donna), one can see that he did have one important year in 04/05. That year, he was 16/3/3 and was the third option behind Pierce and Walker; and was a more critical player than Payton.

Davis will turn 29 this September and has been very consistent in the last years. The 04/05 season proves that he can win as a Robin-type player around Batmen. Ricky would be a nice fit and a good role model for Lee.
