From what I read, he is the Spurs prime FA target now that he has been renounced. It doesn't say he is set to sign with them. In fact the only quote in the whole article is from a unnamed western conference scout, LOL! Not very reliable IMO.

If he somehow signs with the Spurs for the MLE, Otis better get ready for fans to come picketing at his door.

It would just be another in a long list of goof-ups by this organization. It seems like this organization in anything it does (Draft, Free-Agency, Extensions) seems to get a singular focus and never deviates from the plan. The last few drafts have been like that, players that must be ranked higher on their boards (Granger a few years ago and Arthur this year) but they are so transfixed on the player that they will be selecting. The Magic made up their mind that they would give Jameer an extension even though I believe he had not proven himself. The Magic made up their minds that they were going to make a splash last year in free-agency (Coinciding with their push for a new Arena mind you.) so they were dead set on getting Rashard, even if it would put the team in the same predicament they were in a half a decade ago when they signed T-Mac & Grant Hill which is hamper the growth of the team over the next half-decade by leaving no room for additions.

For those on this board that said the Magic would go over the luxury tax if it would provide them a chance to be great need to take a look in the mirror. If this deal goes down and Corey goes to the Spurs, the Magic would have cost themselves a 20 PPG scorer at a position of weakness that wanted to come home because of a few million dollars. I know that is a big sum of money to us, but to a billionaire who can simply use that loss to shield his millions of profits from Amway it is a sorry excuse.

Luxury tax has little to do with it. Maggette would command 5.8 million starting. That would move our cap up to about 63. The current luxury tax zone is anything at 67.9 million and above. That number will go up into the 70 million range once the new salary cap comes out. We would be well under it.

I think the general concensus is that the front office will find a way to screw up any chance of getting maggs, such as I dont think anyone on this board would be surprised in the least bit if he signed with someone else for the full MLE. It would make no sense whatsoever but would not blindside anyone IMO.

That is true. Only the Magic could screw this up.

Or he could just simply choose the Spurs over us. You know, either way.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

The way it sounds, he could choose Boston or the Spurs over us. When you are an MLE player, the world is your oyster. :D

okay..where would you rather play for...

a.) the team that has one of the best big men's in the league with an oppurtunity to play starting SG next to 2 of the best 3 point shooters in the league. can see rents more often if he's family oriented like that...

b.) the spurs..oldies

c.) celtics..the team that just won a championship and won't have the same hunger as team A.)

Just got word from one of our inside guys at RDV that it is an 80% chance we sign Maggette and that people were getting really excited over there about the possible signing. It isn't a lock mind you, but it is getting close.

Yeah, yeah....You're just saying that so when it doesn't happen you can make it sound worse because he supposedly was so close.

We should Push HARD to get Maggz... Then trade J.J. for some sort of servicable PF and let Evans walk and Re-Sign Dooling if possible... This would be best case senario... The more likly senario is we let Maggz go sign somewhere else for exactly what we offered him and we just re-sign dooling and they will say it was all part of there plan seeing as " Dooling was the player we were targeting all along  "

If we don't get him you can't really blame Otis, all we can offer him is the MLE.

We just have to hope he really wants to come home and sees us as a team on the rise, as opposed to the spurs who have a short window left.

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.
