Orlando Magic could sign former Gator Jason Williams as backup point guard

NBA veteran Jason Williams, the former Florida Gator who helped the Miami Heat win a championship in 2006, wants to fill the Orlando Magic's role as a backup point guard to Jameer Nelson.

Williams, 32, has played for the Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlie and Miami Heat. He became an unrestricted free agent July 1.

The Magic already have spoken about the possibility with Williams' agent Dan Tobin.

Would this be a nice pick-up for Orlando? or would you rather have Dooling?

That could boost the Magic’s chances up a couple notches.

Him being the former starting PG for a championship team that featured an all star big man/sg and a good supporting cast shows that he fits very well when he is not to be counted on as a main offensive option and if Jameer is injured or is playing inconsistent i can easily seeing stan moving JW to the starting PG spot. I will be very happy if we get him, i like his style of play.

I saw him a few years back at my high school, while he was helping Nick Calathes on his bball game, he had a half a million dollar all black rimmed out rolls royce in the parking lot..it was soooooo nice!!

Ive always been a big J-will fan and will be very happy if he signs here

but i guess the team isnt even looking for another big?
really hope battie can stay healthy and be that backup PF we need (i personally would of rather see us bring in a starting big and move Lewis back to SF)

It would be great, really great. Jason is one of my favourites pg's. I would shout a "hell yeah" if we make it happen. Come on Jason!!

Can Williams stay healthy?

If so, I like it......

I'd say no one knows for sure what Otis is up to, he really sneaked in there with the Pietrus agreement. I'd expect at least two more roleplaying free agent signing and possibly a trade.

I'd rather go after a PG who's defense is a not an absolute zero.
JWill as the 3rd string PG? I'd like it. As the backup? No, please no, didn't we learn anything from last year? We need a PG who can defend from the bench.

sound good

nelson,Jason
MP,LEE
Hedo,lewis
Lewis,battie,cook,auggie
Howard,battie,gortat,(foyle??)

so what do we have to play around:
bogans,JJ,fran, future picks (not the 2009 1st cause that is where we r gonna get our next PG)

bogans is an expiering contract and shoudl get more value later in the year,he is a good SG/SF back up

i think JJ will push hard for a trade (i'll do the same) ,so hopefully we can send JJ + future consideration to memphis for a PG

i think byears should be on our roster ,he would be cheap and this kid can play (i hoped we'd go after him last year)

Williams made $8.9 million last season with the Heat and is looking for a contract worth more than the veteran's minimum. The Magic have the bi-annual exception (worth approximately $2.1 million), but there are concerns about a payroll that already has swelled to $65 million.

Said Myers: "We don't view Jason as a minimum player and I don't think the Magic do either. We're only eight days into free agency and there's still a lot of business left to take place."

Florida today is reporting that Williams doesn't see himself as a minimum valued player, that doesn't sound good.

word is J-Will is supposed to be meeting with the team tomorrow...man, the BAE? we could try and get Kwame or Elson with that...so we're going to sign Williams with the BAE and Foyle with the LLE??? man I hope we make a trade now...

I can live with signing J-Will with the BAE, as long as that's all its gonna take to get him. I am so expecting a trade now for a power forward.

J-Will is an LLE player at this point.

I'd love him here for that price. I'd think about the BAE, but I'd rather get someone like Elson for it.

I'm not his biggest fan. He always struck me as Carlos Arroyo on fast forward.

I'd rather we explore what it would take to get Livingston, but maybe that's just me being exceptionally grumpy.
