Redick still hoping for playing time in Orlando (Denton)

This is a quote from that article that addresses what the bloggers have been posting and what y'all have been drooling over. lol
ORLANDO -- The message board scuttlebutt claimed that J.J. Redick, frustrated that he’s never going to get to play with the Magic and again demanding a trade out of Orlando, had cleaned out his locker at the team’s headquarters.
That rumor actually found its way to Redick, and he got a hearty chuckle out of it. And following a two-hour weightlifting session Friday at the Magic’s headquarters, Redick stressed that he indeed still has an occupied dressing stall in the Magic locker room.
``Yeah, I saw that,’’ Redick said, ``and I got a good laugh out of it.’’
Speculation has swirled for weeks that the former Duke All-American is on his way out of Orlando after the Magic picked Courtney Lee in the NBA Draft and signed fellow shooting guard Mickael Pietrus to a four-year, $25.1 million free-agent contract.
Third on the team’s depth chart last season when he played just 34 games, Redick was seemingly pushed even further into oblivion on the Magic bench. He is one of four shooting guards on the roster, joining Keith Bogans, Pietrus and Lee.
But Redick, who recently turned 24 years old, has been assured by Magic general manager Otis Smith that there are no plans to trade him elsewhere.
``I’m sure, from what I’ve been told, that I will be in Orlando,’’ Redick said. ``My mindset is to just come into camp in great shape and earn minutes. I tried to do that last summer and it didn’t work out, so I’ve worked even harder this summer. I want it to work out here, I really do. I’m doing everything in my power to put myself in a good position.

In the wake of the Magic's imminent signing of Golden State's free agent shooting guard Mickael Pietrus, Redick spoke to the Sentinel Wednesday morning and acknowledged, "The writing's on the wall. The writing's been on the wall for some time."

And that was written by Brian Schmitz who admitted that Redick didn't say anything to him at the end of the season about play me or trade me. That Brian made the whole thing up. So you think that stopped Brian from taking liberal license again.
In God we Trust, In John Denton we Trust, In Brian Schmitz we Trust NOT.

I can honestly see this line in an upcoming article in the next few days:
'The Magic traded sharp shooter JJ Redick to Team X for Player Y. This comes days after GM Otis Smith said that he "likes JJ" and that "he can be a good back up shooting guard in this league". Redick could not be reached for comment. "JJ wanted an opportunity to play but that was gonna be tough here with MP and Courtney at that position, we still like JJ" said Smith.'

Cougar, JJ seems to be relating what he was told earlier. I'm a bit of a JJ fan too and I really hope he is traded. You can follow more than one team. I would think you would want him gone. Just by the nature of it if he's traded he will see playing time since the team would want him to begin with.. Here his best shot is getting bench minutes split with a rookie.

I would like to see JJ succeed in the NBA, heck I would like to see him succeed on my club, I watched him at Duke for the last 3 years of his time there and I really liked his spirit, I like his swagger and when he's on his game no one can touch him. idk, it's an odd story...

I think we should keep him at this point just so he will not become the worst Magic killer in history!
You know if he comes back on another team he will shoot and make revenge three's from halfcourt all day long! LOL

It's either him or Bogans. Or Otis will leave us with 4 SG's in our roster?
I don't think so...

Yeah, its unfortunate, but I see Redick, Bogans, and potentially Brian Cook all on new teams come training camp. This is a business though, and it sounds like Redick understands that. Also, I don't think just because Otis says one thing he means it, he may love this kid to death, but he just may love him on another team just a little bit more.

trade bogans for a bag of potato chips. He's good but JJ is better.

I agree Otis has been down this road before

if we end up trading one of our shooting guards, i think it should be bogans..we finally got some defensive players at the 2, pietrus and lee..jj can bring instant offense, he can get hot and score in bunches, he cant play defense like bogans, but he can be a threat on the court in short spurts, we arent gonna be asking our 3rd string sg to play 20min..this also assumes that lee can come in and contribute right away...of course if we can get better value for redick, then explore those options..

Except that Otis has been consistent when it comes to Redick about him staying with the Magic. Time and time again everyone thought that Otis was going to move Redick even though he said he wouldn't, and with Redick he has stayed the course. It just sounds to me that Otis plans to stay the course with Redick and keep him in Orlando.
Now with that said that sounds like Bogans becomes the real trade bait plus he has an expiring contract. Plus Cook may be another piece of the puzzle to keep the Magic under the lux cap and get some help at PG.

Blah die blah... All this talk about Redick, and everybody putting so much weight into everything. Isn't it obvious both Otis and JJ are just saying the right thing here?
If Otis would say "OK, this dude is just all the way in the back of the bench here, let's move him asap" to the press what do you think that would do to his trade value to other GM's? The Magic wouldn't get back half as much as they would right now, no matter how little that might be already these days.
If JJ were to say "Blegh, even less PT for me! I don't like it here, I want out asap!" what do you think that would do to his trade value, again? What GM would want a player with a bad attitude that just sits on the back of the bench complaining about his PT all year long?

Again, it's in his best interest to keep up the hard-working reputation.
All this media and message board talk is kindof pointless IMO. It's quite obvious Pietrus is now the Magic's obvious starting SG unless something drastic happens. Depending on how Courtney Lee develops, Redick will be getting backup or 3rd string minutes at best. If Redick needs to be in a trade for, say a key PF or point guard reserve, I'm sure Otis won't hesitate to include him.
As for Redick, I think the Pietrus signing actually helped Redick's chances to get minutes next year. Pietrus is a tall, athletic SG that's arguably a better defender than offensive player, while Redick is virtuall the exact opposite of that. Substituting Pietrus for Redick could make a lot of sense in certain game situations to get a change of pace or to spread the floor. Because of that I don't think Otis is necessary in a rush to give away Redick, but by no means I would call JJ "off limits" either.
