Are us Magic fans ever going to be happy

It seems like since Lee had some good SL games, so did JJ we are not aloud to be excited . But if he would of had a bad summer games he would of been tagged a bust. In Redick's defense, he didnt get much playing time but when he was in he played well (as a role player). In Lee's defense, he a little more athletic and more defensive minded than Redick. Both have heart. Lets be embracefull.
Okay yea we didn't get Rush, Koufus, or CDR but we won 52 games last year and filled necessary spots in the off season.
I want Rubio, 3% we trade for him but the glass will alway be half-full for me and we don't get him im not going to moarn because my favorite player (#12) is still with my favorite team.
And Maggettes is good but we didnt need him

i dont think any true fan should be 100% happy until their team wins a ship.

I would say no. I don't even think a championship would satisfy them. They'd be upset if the team didn't go back-to-back....and so on.

The journey's fun. I'm very dissapointed whenever we lose, but I understand that only one team get's to win a championship every season. It's still fun to follow and root for your team.

Happiness in sports is only about winning. The Magic have failed me for 19 seasons now.
Just win.

Bingo.
Of course I want us to win a chip. Of course I get frustrated with some of the moves or non-moves. Of course I'm upset with a 2nd round exit.
But, the team is making steps to improve, filling needs. They are not cutting costs/salaries or running the team like the Clipps were doing for so long. We have a new arena coming up soon, with a very large contribution by ownership - compare that to what happened in Seattle.

Exactly.
Like any fan each loss upsets me; but I am not going to throw my toys out of the pram over any of it; especially not over win a 'ship - since 29 other teams dont achieve this feat, and its not even like we are the only team to not win it; or even in a minority of teams that doesnt win.
I just keep my faith in the team; support it because I am a fan and enjoy the experience of watching a sport I love with at a team I love.
However; when Man Utd dont win .... but thats a different story lol.
Once Dwight has led us to a couple of 'ships - then I'll be disappointed when we dont win! Gotta get there first though.

We can win the championship next year and i can gurantee you that someone will say something like "well if this was another year there is no way we win the title with the team we have now bla bla bla".

What matters to me is the quality of the entertainment. I prefer that every game matter, but also realize that success/failure of my teams isn't defined solely by the holding of a championship trophy or not.
As an observer/fan, every year my expectations are for the Magic to win 50, The Redskins to win 10, LSU to win 9, UCF to win 8, and the Rays to win 90.
Anything more than that is gravy.
If I was a coach, or player, or GM, my expectations would be to win it all every year. When YOU are the competitor, you can have the edge of the cliff expectations. A participant has some control over results and expectations........ a fan base does not.

I believe that was Bobby McPheron(sp). Bob said, "Don't worry, about a thing, because every little thing, is gonna be alright....." The man was a legend.
Anyway, I'm very happy actually. I was worried about the not spending thing like we were just going to stay pat. I can see them being conservative with their cash and not resigning marginal players that we had last year. That doesn't bother me, but to have a total overhaul at our weakest position, and spending practically the entire mle to do it, is a great great move imo. We don't have to get there this year, but as long as we are moving forward. Otis is doing just fine.

I think that was Bobby McFerrin. But easy mistake to make
In answer to the bulk of your post, I doubt fans will ever be happy (for any team, anywhere) unless they win. I am willing to bet if you went over to the Laker boards as their team was beaten in the finals, there were plenty of "Player X sucks" and "We need to get rid of Player Y". Never mind the fact that this particular group of players had won the Western Conference, and taken them to the NBA Finals.
Sports fans en masse are fickle. The Boston fans who were calling for Doc Rivers' and Danny Ainge's respective heads 18 months ago now proclaim them to be legends.
I like to think that in general I can be fairly objective about Orlando - I love my team, and I was immensely proud of how they did last season. I realise that they have a way to go and I want them to take those steps, and realise it may take a couple of seasons of development for Dwight, who is the key to our success, and a few offseason moves before that happens. But it doesn't mean I won't get caught up in the emotion of any particular moment, over-reacting to the perceived success or failure of any game or offseason acquisition, etc. Sport is an emotive endeavour, particularly for the fans. Logical thought is not always going to happen. I think if you asked every Magic fan to give their honest assessment on the team, specifically their progress from the season they bottomed at 21-61, they would generally be quite happy, and expect they upward trend to continue. But ask them their opinion during a game when we are getting blown out on our home court by Minnesota and yo will get wildly different responses.

For my part, I'm very happy with last season. Watching Dwight and Jameer grow up has been fun. Mix that in with an up-tempo style and personalities like Rashard, Hedo, and Stan, and it's a really easy team to like.
In fact, if you can't like this team, whatever it is that makes you a sports fan is very different than what makes me a sports fan. Maybe I would have given a different answer when I was younger, but -- at the risk of sounding like a cheese ball -- life has taught me to enjoy the good that comes my way more and lament what I've missed out on less.

I kinda laugh when I see threads like this on RealGm. Why? Because of the faulty assumptions. Realgm was created and named because it was understood that part of the ENJOYMENT of the games was in tossing ideas around, playng the Gm perspective and getting involved in discussing the makeup and building of a team. Getting mentally involved in that part of the game only increases the entertainment value.
Of course intelligent people once they get involved will begin to have strong views about things and therefore disagree with moves etc but thats part of the process and rather than taking away from the enjoyment of sports it enhances it.
Lets say you are a JJ detractor when he gets traded tell me you wont derive some greater satsifaction from his removal and if you have argued for JJ's playing time and he moves and gets it tell me you won't get satisfaction from him putting up some good games elsewhere.
Part of the game is the armchair Gming. I guess if you are not a fan of the game itself and just a local team fan and nothing else it can be depressing to hear various views but for those who aren't they are just kicking their ideas around and enjoying the NBA game even more for it. I know I do. and thats why Realgm exists.

Actually, your first statement rendered most of your following argument useless.
If a player plays well in the SL, does it mean he'll be good in the NBA? No. So, what's to get excited about? Players can tear up the SL and never be a good NBA player.
If a player sucks in the SL, it indeed is a good indicator that he'll be a poor NBA player. How can we expect someone to succeed in the NBA, if they cannot play well in the SL?

The goal obviously is to win a championship. However, if the team makes strides every year to get better then it is exciting. If you would have told me at the end of last year we would have made it to the 2nd round, I would have been thrilled. Now the goal to show we improved is the ECF. The journey is what it is all about and unless you are the Celtics you have to take the necessary steps to get there. Trust me I took the loss to Detroit very hard but you have to get over it and realize that we were one of the last 8 teams left in the playoffs. When is the last time the Magic could say that? The journey is exciting and I can't wait for next season.

When I'm happy is when we beat the Pistons in the playoffs
