The Orlando Magic reached an agreement with free-agent point guard Anthony Johnson Tuesday on a two-year deal worth approximately $4.2 million, according to a source close to the negotiations.

Johnson could sign his contract as soon as today or possibly by Wednesday.

Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 195-pounder, is best known for his on-ball defense and veteran savvy. The 33-year-old point guard has played 11 NBA seasons, including 18 games in the 1999-2000 season with the Magic.

He split time between the Atlanta Hawks and the Sacramento Kings last season, averaging 5.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists a game.

The signing ends the Magic’s hopes of retaining combo guard Keyon Dooling, who was angered by the Magic’s offering of the two-year deal after he made $3.6 million last season.

Orlando is still trying to acquire a third point guard and has held trade talks with the Memphis Grizzlies about the availability of 6-foot-5 guard Javaris Crittenton, according to Crittenton’s agent, Wallace Prather.

I am glad they are still trying to do a trade for Crit.

I would be really happy then!

well this should kill the Williams stuff thankfully...SJ will be good here in short minutes, more effective than Arroyo as a backup, he's a big guy too...

no, I dont think this kills additional PG talks, if we're looking for an effective 2nd guy, this move is just an insurance move, AJ will be our 3rd guy out most likely, unless we are unable to swing something else...I like this signing a lot, I like AJ, he's a leader and a good guy, it's nice to have him back...

Very good signing. Johnson is a solid backup. Ive been watching his game while he was here in atlanta. He makes open shots and plays tough D. He also doesnt turn the ball over.

yeah, hes a very solid pg. He can defense, shoot the 3, and hit the jumper. I remember a couple of years ago he lit up jason kidd for 40 points in the playoffs lol....but I love this veteran signing....

I really think Otis wouldn't jump the gun and sign a 33 year old guy if he didn't think he was close to getting a younger option.

I've always like Johnson in the right role.

He's solid defensively, and will complement the back court.

Good Move- Will admit gonna miss Carlos Arroyo come in for 3 mins and put up 10 shots and then on defense forget who he is suppose to cover on a pick:lol:

Nice signing tho- pass first vet who knows how to play the postion and play his role!!!!!

Would love for Critt to come to Orlando

Gonna take more than Bogans or Redick to get him tho- Maybe we throw in the rights to Franny(as we all know how Memphis likes big europeans) but more likely a future #1

Now we just need another BIG instead of Augustine and we got a team

I thought Keyon was done yesterday when he blasted the Magic for the offer, or last week when we ran out of $$$ after signing MP...this is just the nail in the coffin so to speak...

One thing this does is makes us seem less desperate to acquire another PG. Memphis could have been playing hardball because they knew we were in a tough situation. Now we have a little wiggle room, and maybe puts the ball a little more in our court.
