Not only does that negatively impact the Celts, but the Hornets just got a fair bit better, too.

Sources: Posey agrees to four-year deal with Hornets
By Marc Stein
ESPN.com
LAS VEGAS -- The reigning NBA champions are about to lose their glue guy.
NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com on Wednesday that James Posey has agreed to a four-year deal with the New Orleans Hornets worth an estimated $25 million.
Because of luxury-tax concerns, Boston was reluctant to offer Posey, 31, more than a two-year deal in spite of his considerable contributions to the Celtics' first championship since 1986.

If they don't sign somebody like Childress or something then yeah, it hurts them.

He can help but please. He not the reason they won the title. Posey has suddenly become very overrated. He a good role player. He can be replaced by guys like Michael Finley, Jarvis Hayes, Delfino. If I was them I would go hard after CJ Miles.
They also will get improvement from the young guys like Rondo, Perkins, Powe, Davis. They could loose to the Lakers next year but if so it be because the Lakers get a healthy Bynum not that they lost Posey.

Posey was their glue guy. Not one of the stars by any means, but a consummate role player and very clutch shooter. Also, Michael Finley is 36 and Jarvis Hayes is the newest New Jersey Net. Delfino would hardly take Posey's place on that roster.

Let's not get crazy but hey you never know. Anyway for the Celtics to get weaker is good for us imo.

The Celtics losing Posey is huge. Of course they not only lose him, but Allen, Cassell, Brown and maybe even House. Their bench is getting mighty thin. They still have the MLE, but there isn't much out there.

Nice role player.
Good fit on the Celts.
But he is hardly irreplaceable.

They can miss him but he become extremely overrated. He was pretty much bad in the entire Eastern Conference playoffs. He was really good against the Lakers. They will miss him but he can be replaced. Finley is older but was equal if not better than Posey last year. Delfino is not the defender that Posey is but the Celtics play great team defense. They don't ask individuals to shut down defenders. Delfino is a extremely hard worker. You also have Bonzi Wells, Azubuike, Gordan Giricek. They will miss him but its not the end of the world for them.

Posey is getting paid that much because he IS that good. People calling him overrated are wrong as hell, and replacing him with an acient Finley? the crappy Arvis Hayes? LOL!!!!
Posey might not be the centerpiece of that team obviously, but he is a championship role player. He is clutch, a important shot won't be missed by him, he is a mercenary, he is a leader, has energy and he doesn't let anybody get down. The falls to the floor after the loose balls, the running like a deer after fast breaks, the great defense, the hard fouls to break momentum... Can Finley do that? can Arvis do that?
That's why Posey gets his paycheck.

Can Finley do that? Finley did that. Finley made a ton of big shots playing with the Spurs. He made the shot that let them go to OT in Game 1 against the Suns. He plays hard nose D. Yeah he is old but he also was playing just as well as Posey.
His playoffs was very overrated. He was really good in the finals. Made a bunch of big shots. He was invisible for most of the EC playoffs.

1 year isnt a grip.
But they might have taken a hit to maintain it - especially with the east being better this year might be harder to beat some of the teams as the season wears on.

I think this hurts the Celtics. While he wasnt a starter he was thier sixth man.

sure it hurts them, but they won 66 games last year (i think that's the right #), so they can afford to let a decent roleplayer walk, lol.
They're still the top dawgs in the East.
