I know you love Hedo, BUT...

... if Otis was ready to move him now, what would you want in return?

Nets/Mavericks fan here. I wanted to see if the Nets could put together an offer for Hedo, even if a 3rd team needed to be involved. I must admit, he would be seen as a flight risk by the Nets, since he has an ETO at the end of the '08-'09 season, which affects what we can reasonably offer. I expect you'd find the same line of thinking from most teams who were interested in Turkoglu.

I know he's a fan favorite, so this is a topic rife with anxiety/frustration/tension. Please, just bear in mind that I'm looking for a list of demands in a VERY UNLIKELY event. I know that he's not on the trading block, but I wanted to know what you'd expect for him. The more specific you can be, esp. naming players, the better.

Among the options I'll list, know that the offer doesn't end there. Minor additions would be added, in the form of absorbed players you don't want (Cook? Bogans?? Battie???), and young players/picks from the offering team/s.

Even though I am fairly confident that Otis doesnt plan on trading Hedo, and that resigning him is a top priority... One of very few scenarios that I would trade him would be for Josh Smith, considering he make it public that he didnt want to be back with ATL if Woodson is their head coach. I know the money he wants wouldnt match up with the money Hedo makes, but thats not my job to figure out how to make it work... I would just love a Crit/Smith/Dwight trio, bring back the childhood friends!

I know its not possible, and I am all for keeping Hedo if we can lock him into a few more years, so I guess I am kind of impartial to this....

We won't be trading Hedo. We can re-sign him & there won't be a good enough offer out there to bite on. If there was, I would gladly trade him...but there just won't be a good enough offer.

Hedo is one of my favorite people on this team but i personally feel that we would have a much better chance to win a championship with a true PF. If that is something we could do while keeping Hedo then thats great, he would be one of the most dangerous 6th men in the league. But i think that we have a better chance of winning a championship with a starting lineup something like:

Nelson
Peitrus
Lewis
Haslem/Gooden/Wilcox
Howard

It would have to be a "similar" talent or a trade that meant our actual lineup got a stronger as a result of shifting Lewis to his natural position and running with a natural 4 and 5 [or closer to that].

My ideal trade would probably be Lamar Odom for Hedo - which I think works straight up in terms of contracts. It wouldnt be a bad trade for either team I think. Hedo would be a good all round player at the 3 for them, still able to accomplish alot of what Odom does for LA. For us we get a guy that can run at the 4 better than Lewis.

Second prob would be Haslem - has ability to score - but doesnt need to, can defend and rebound and wont get in Dwights way.

Third would be David Lee - much the same as Haslem - prob would be either a 3 way with NY and LA or something.

I Would do it for Nachbar (for the 6th man role), Sean Williams (next to Dwight) and Marcus Williams (to seat Jameer's ass).

Hedo and a 1st, because Otis sucks with them.

Drew "infected hair follicle" Gooden = quality starter

I choose "Other" as I'm cool with the current lineup and am willing to give it another season.

If I am wrong, I'll freely admit it. But I think we can make it work with Lewi$ and Turk.

I would trade Hedo for a quality PF such as Lamar Odom or Haslem. Not to keen on Wilcox but if we somehow pulled out a deal such as Hinrich and Thomas for hedo and a first I would consider it.

or instead of giving up a first how about we dump Fran's butt on another team instead of giving us that headache every year.

Hedo for Bargnani (only if we are absolutely losing Hedo, risky deal for us but Barg might benefit from playing his natural position of PF)

Hedo and Cook for Tyrus Thomas and Nocioni (Chicago wouldnt do it, but i would)

I had a feeling that the mention of Gooden would get a rise out of Magic fans!

Anyway, I think Odom is going to Sacramento or Miami IF he leaves LA, but Haslem is a viable option to acquire.

I'm trying to assemble a deal that would give you Warrick, Sean Williams and Javaris Crittenton for Hedo. The catch? You would have to absorb Jaric. I really think he would be valuable in your lineup though, as a tall playmaker who can find Duhwight. Would this even be feasible?

That would almost seem worth it if it wouldn't destroy us financially...

I really am starting to think about that Odom for Hedo that somebody mentioned.

Questions for the knowledgeable?

If we can play Rashard at the 4 why can we not play Hedo?

They're are both around the same size, and I wonder if Rashard is that much stronger than Hedo to dictate him playing at the 4?

Now I'm not saying making him our starter at the 4 or anything, but switching it up and confusing the defenses...

Hector, I completely agree that we can win with a frontcourt of Lewis, Turk, and Dwight. I'll join you for a crow sandwich if we turn out to be wrong.

I'm of the school that says we should only trade Turk for "wow" deal, like Josh Smith or Antawn Jamison. I definitely wouldn't take Bargs, Gooden, or Haslem. I'm not even sure that I'd be happy with Odom, though I can see why he would be a good fit.

My logic is based on two assumptions: 1) Dwight will soon be the best defensive player in the league and thus will be able to make up for the defensive problems created by playing small ball, and 2) guys who regularly step it up in the 4th quarter should be valued at 1.25 times their statistical production (so Turk's 19ppg have a real value equal to that of a player who scores 24ppg but doesn't step it up in crunch time).

The problem with haslem is that pat riley wouldn't help orlando. (thus he wouldn't do the trade) Hedo wouldn't do well in miami either considering thier current lineup. I doubt he'd ever really get the ball with wade, ricky "between the legs dunk" davis, and marion. I personally think that our lineup will do just fine. You have to remember, in the playoffs, we were missing battie, which would have helped us significantly, and dwight was playing VERY hurt. We have a boarderline championship team. We don't need to drop a roster bomb with trades or anything, just minor tweaks which is what i think we are doing. I also think hedo will stay in O-town following this season.

About the only trade I would consider that has been mentioned is a Sign and trade for Josh Smith. That would be perfect but other than that, I would keep Hedo and just keep making small changes to the roster.

Odom makes a lot more than Hedo so it doesn't work straight up. Personally the Lakers are the only team in the league that could make a case for trading for Rashard. Odom for Rashard and I like it better than trading our best play maker. Lakers are going to pay Rashard those 20 plus million at the second half of his contract.

I don't buy into this we need to move Rashard to SF because I think him playing SF had little to do with his season last year. Him playing PF had little to do with his role in the offense and I think defensively we would get killed by good SFs.

One thing for sure is you would have to get a ball handler back in a Hedo trade. Rashard has no ball handling skills. If you bring in another PF that doesn't have ball handling you easily are going into next year with a team that can barely dribble the basketball. Jameer would literally be the only starter that could bring the ball up and would have any play making ability. You can not just trade Hedo for a PF and then move Rashard to SF.

If I was going to trade Hedo it would not be for a PF. It would only be to get a more dynamic wing. Someone that can do everything Hedo does only better. I hated him when he played here but Tmac would be someone like that. Allen Iverson would be another guy. Hedo/Jameer/Battie for AI and Linas Kleiza or Tmac/Luther Head.

well if its a Hedo for Haslem trade, Riley would be getting the better end of the deal so it probably could happen. I dont think Otis would.

The Orlando Magic do not have a borderline championship team...they have a borderline eastern conference championship team. Until they get past Detroit, they're not a bordeline championship team; maybe, I can see you calling them a borderline finals team, but even then its sort of a stretch.

Even so, I think if a good trade comes up, the Magic should jump on it. Using the teams that have already been mentioned in this thread, I'd go with this trade. Personally, though, I'd rather move Lewis than Hedo.

Magic give Hedo Turkoglu, Brian Cook, a 2nd round pick, and Keith Bogans.

Nets give Sean Williams, Stromile Swift, and a 1st round pick.

Grizzlies give Javaris Crittenton.

Magic get Sean Williams, Stromile Swift, Javaris Crittenton, and a 1st round pick.

Nets get Hedo Turkoglu and Brian Cook.

Grizzlies get Keith Bogans and a 2nd round pick.

Why for the Magic: It gives them a good defensive, rebounding starter in Sean Williams, a great backup and potential starting pg in Crittenton, and some cap room next summer in Swift's expiring contract; plus they get an extra first rouner to acquire further assets with, either via trade or the draft.

Why for the Nets: Gives them a good, starting sf to play with for a few years, while still being able to win and allowing them to still sign James in 2010.

Why for the Grizzlies: Honestly, I don't know why they would take this trade, but I'm just playing by the rumors. I think Crittenton is a good player.
