Atlanta Players Getting No Look

Why is it that Josh Smith and Josh Childress seem to be getting little attention on the FA market? Are that many teams reluctant to go near the luxury tax?
Childress now claims to be seriously considering a 3 year, 20 million dollar contract from the Olympiakos.
http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/53686/20080721/childress_seriously_considering_offer_from_olympiakos/Childress, 25, is so flustered with the Hawks’ refusal to make a sign-and-trade deal to another team, one source familiar with his thinking believes there’s “better than a 50-50 chance” he’ll sign with Olympiakos.
This makes it seem more as if the Hawks are just screwing Josh & Josh over by not negotiating with any other teams. Could it be that they are forcing them to just sign offer sheets with other teams, other teams that will have to pay them less due to luxury tax, and then Atlanta will just match the offer...thus saving money??

Get used to it, the level of play in Europe is going to be getting really close to the NBA soon.
Nachbar's deal follows a fast-developing worrisome trend for some NBA executives -- based in large part on the strength of the euro against the dollar -- of European-based teams being able to outbid their NBA counterparts for free agents.
Already this summer, Tiago Splitter of Brazil, a first-round pick of the Spurs in 2007, and Goran Dragic of Slovenia, a second-round pick of the Spurs in 2008 whose rights were traded to the Suns, have opted for more lucrative deals in Europe than they'd be eligible for as rookies in the NBA.
And four international players with NBA experience -- Carlos Delfino, Jorge Garbajosa, Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Juan Carlos Navarro -- have accepted offers from European teams that easily trumped the money NBA teams were willing to offer.
"The NBA had better be careful," Nachbar said. "European teams are offering a lot of money. It's much more, considering there are no taxes, than what I could make signing for the mid-level exception."

No doubt, that isn't the question. The strange this about it is that he is going over there for a 3 year, 20 million dollar contract. That is nice and all, but that isn't much of a contract for a good NBA player going over seas.
I was also just looking for an opinion on how the Hawks are dealing with their players. It seems pretty shady.

Hawks=East Coast Clippers
Since 'Nique left it's been all down hill, especially with their ongoing owner fiasco.

NBA "Superstars" won't find comparable salaries, but 2nd tier players and everyone else will.

Well tehn, lets just send Hedo and Battie for Josh Smith (S&T) and check how badly they run that franchise

Josh Smith would be nice to bad we would have to give more like Hedo Battie and a first or rights to Fran.

The Hawks actually had a decent season last year and a good series against Boston and now they won't even pay a guy like Josh Smith. That is pretty sad and it shows that they are a badly run organization.

Well that contract equals 10 million per if he played in USA. Maybe more if you considered all the other expenses they would pay.
The system is hurtin gall RFAs. Everyone thinks these teams will match the offer. Not many teams have cap space. One of the teams that has cap space isn't using it. For David Stern if another league comes in and takes away players it could be a problem. I know he wants to get in Europe. Well he better speed up the process.

This wasn't a very good year for restricted free agents on cheap teams who have little intention of being competitive in the league....but that's just my opinion. Josh and Josh are good players but that's just it....not superstars. I don't see Childress going oversees but you never know. As everyone has pointed out...more and more are popping up to play in Europe these days.
