David of the West ?

From our pals at the good ol' O-Zone:

Just speculation. Also, a hint of something getting done on or by wed from a regular poster.

Yeah, I just heard from a semi-insider friend of mine that the buzz around RDV is we are in serious talks for David West. Just throwing it out there.

obviously take it for what it's worth; entertaining, but it'd amazing if we somehow we're to aquire David West.

Also Otis from the sentinel:
(on aquiring trade exception)

"You still have to acquire assets to build a team," Smith told the Sentinel on Monday

"It just gives you flexibility to add someone if you don't have the money to spend," Smith said.

Whether that money could be earmarked to assist in trade talks to add another point guard like Memphis' Javaris Crittenton, he wouldn't say.

"It doesn't necessarily have a name on it," he said. "It can be something we do as the season unfolds or do something with it now. But it doesn't have a name on it. We're looking a roster economy and trying to get better. If you have another asset to try to do a two-for-one, we could possibly do that, too."

Preach it my brotha ! :D
The guessing game featuring special guest, Otis Smith.

Why in the world would the Hornets trade David West. They're a really good team and could conceivably contend next year.

I mean, I'd want him obviously, but I don't believe this. But we'll see.

EDIT: I just read the thread on there. The David West thing seems like it's just that guy throwing crap out there.

The rumor about something happening by Wednesday is the real news here.

I'm on the same page as you with on why would NOH trade David West?

Like I said, it's speculation but it could be someone just pulling it out of there crack or could be very well in the fold. It's just exciting to hear we're looking to get better and not "staying pat" and I'd trade anyone on this roster not named Dwight for David West and that says alot.

Well these next few days something WILL happen. What?

Critt, David West, J-WIll, DA, Doleac could be a possible addition to the team

and a JJ or Bogans could possibly be on there way out with that handy TE of $3million and change.

Otis, ya got that nice exten$ion. So continue to show your worth and surprise each and every fan with a witty transaction that we never thought you could pull off, so we at RealGM can post the world's longest appreciation thread about a hero by the name of Otis Smith...

yeah, I read the whole thread too. lol

but there will be news wed "apparently". so a deal could be done by then and I'm pulling for this Critt trade more than anything or whats been speculated and reported...

I dont think there is any chance the hornets move west.

That said, if this trade is really in the works, its surely going to involve turkoglu. If its a turk for west swap with a few other smaller peices thrown in to make it work, id be all for it.

West would fit in next to dwight perfectly. It would solidify our front court greatly. I see pipe dream written all over this.

The Magic lack obvious assets to get one of the games best PFs.

Yes West is a fit; and yes the Magic would reluctantly trade Turkoglu to get him. But even if the Magic threw in three or four first round picks, that would not be enough.

Only some sort of wild three-way deal could land West.

Nelson
Pietrus
Lewis
West
Howard

That's a gosh-darn good looking starting five.

2 questions
1 - Why on earth would the hornets trade him?
2 - What do we have that they would want in return?

1) They're foolish?
2) A pair of matching socks?

Seriously...if the Hornets trade David West to anyone, let alone us, I'd be very surprised. Unless its for Emeka Okafor in a sign-and-trade...hm.

The question is...How on earth could salaries match up to acquire David West? when he's owed over 25 mil the next 4 years

From the O-Zone;

As I wrote on another thread, an inside source said that right now the Magic plan on trading Turk at the deadline b/c of finances.

This was said post-draft and pre-free agency. I am sure things could change between now and then, as they already have to some degree. I will let you all know if I hear anything else.

a pretty credible source, nail on the head with Critt talks before media.

$25 million/ 4 years ?

Try

$35 million/ 4 years / player option 4th year

His salary is front loaded similar to the three year deal Tony Battie signed for caproom (i.e Shard's whopper contract)

projected to make

$9.8 mill for this upcoming season

compared to say. Hedo's @ $6.8 mill

hold the phone, thrown in a future 1st, $3.3 mill TE, Hedo "my main man" Turkoglu, along with the putrid, I mean promising draft rights to Frannie Poo and we could have a deal.

NOTE:

With Paul's 3 year/ $50 mill extension going into effect for the 09'-10' prob starting at $15-16 mill

and w/ Tyson @ $11.8 mill, Peja @ $14.2 mill, David West @ $9 mill, Mike James w/ a player option he probably won't exercise @ $6.4 mill, and Mo Pete @ the MLE @ $6.2

thats $62.6 mill (a kind estimate) invested into 6 players !

sure, the luxury tax will be a little higher than this season ($71 mill) capping out between $73-$76 mill

but they have a whole roster out to fill and NOH is a mid size market like us, and Shinn I think I've read somewhere quoting Jeff Bower (NOH GM) that the team will not go over the luxury tax.

With Turk it gives NOH flexibilty especially there extension they'll hand out to players like Julian Wright (coming off rookie scale) and I just can't see NOH having 6 guys locked up making $62 mill+ until 2010 !

I can't help but fathom that this is going on in the heads at RDV. That'd be awesome!

And with a pipe dream Critt trade; JJ/ 2009+2010 2nd's for Critt ?

I remember when Denton first broke the story about talks between Mem and Orl and saying Critt could be had for a few 2nd rounders possibly.

The offer above is a little better than a few 2nd rounders for an expendable guard (as Memphis see's it w/ Lowry and Conley Jr.) who really hasn't proven anything, but hasn't been given the green light because of youth and only being 20.

first off, i love the title!

second, theres no way this is true, they are a young, contending team, why would they give up their best offensive big man

I doubt its true. That thread is useless, if you read the other posts they were basically throwing anything out there. I even considered locking it earlier.

David West? from the Hornets? LOL...

there is no doubt that Orlando may be interested in David West, I bet the other 28 teams are as well, but c'mon, this is lunacy...
