not that it really matters anymore seeming the magic aren't going to re-sign him. but, what kind of pg was he? was he a pass-first true pg? or a shoot-first scoring pg? i thought him and nelson made a good 1-2 punch as nelson as the scorer and than arroyo coming off as the assist man, i believe brian hill had said something similar before

A physically talented player with inferior mental ability and an inconsistent shot that he'd never stop taking.

If the Orlando Magic were a Puerto Rican team then Arroyo would be a nasty pg because he always plays very well for them

He had alot of ability - he really did have solid handles, and he did have that ability to get nearly any where on the floor and create a pass out of nothing, BUT he chose not to use it.

He fell in love with his fade from the free throw line extended - but he did it so often while moving sideways. He almost seemed to pass to people when they were in a position only to pass back to him.

Basically he became a ball hog - and because he was a 2nd unit guy I think he almost thought it was up to him completely to take the burden of carrying the game while the starters were out, the reason I say this is he seemed to be a little bit more team orientated when there were 2 or 3 starters in.

If he could have played team ball no matter who was on the floor - and picked his shots better he could actually be a adequate starter - unfortunatly he gets relegated to a backup - with alot of abilty when he decides he can use it.

A perfect fit for the SSOL system under D'Antony in NY.

To add to the above, Arroyo has had some nice games for the Magic where he was a key piece in the victory. Also, whenever Nelson has slumped and got pulled from starting, Arroyo has played well in his first games as the replacement starter. But, that slides fast. He is thus to me a good PG when he is hungry and focused. But then e is a typical NBA bench guy.

Arroyo is a perfect #2 PG for a team. He can bring a "change up" off of the bench. And he can provide 10 starting games a year. Do not ask for more.

I couldn't agree with you more. Carlos was clearly the best passer on this team. It shocked me that he would always walk the ball up court. Personally speaking I think he was reigned in by SVG because of his poor timing of taking unnecessary shots. I believe if he had the right mindset that he would be a fine pg in this league.

Terrible bball IQ, great handles, on/off impact in games. Made some huge mistakes so many times they prolly sealed his fate as a magic player, bu he also had a few good performances last season. BrianHill himself benched him badly so that doesn't mean much.

I think Arroyo was crafty in getting off his own shots.

I think Arroyo often was unable to control his role off the bench.

I also think that Arroyo lacks the athleticism to be better. He hid his lack of athleticism through his abundance of skills. This is one of the reasons that Arroyo seems to wear out his welcome.

A lot of talent, way too inconsistent and rarely ever made the right decision.

In PR he is the man. In the NBA he just lives up to his name "Chuck". Every year after watching him play in PR I thought, "Oh man, he's got his groove back. I can't wait for the season to start." Then he would go right back to chucking the ball and making terrible plays.

What everyone has said. Offensively, he is a good backup pg, who should be a starter with his skills, but lacks the necessary judgement. The reactions of our coaches suggest that he is uncoachable. He does not play defense unless you count (usually unsuccessful) flops.

Not expecting to see many positives on this thread.

I was pretty happy to finally be done with all the "Shoot first or pass first?" crap about the Jameer/Carlos PG duo... and now that it appears Arroyo is gone we get another thread on this! Sigh... Carlos was a PG with pretty good court vision and skills, but just pretty bad decisionmaking in general, arguably due to a low basketball IQ, IMO.

Word.

That was one of the most aggravating things about him. The other being my belief that talent-wise, he could actually be a starting caliber point guard, but instead desires to be Jason Williams.

Anybody remember that game where he racked up somethin' like 9 assists in a quarter? Or was it a half?

I was thinking 'WTF?' while Arroyo summoned his 'inner Stockton.'
