With Childress going and recent reports indicating that Delonte West, Sasha Vujicic, and Andreas Beidrens all might look to Europe, the idea of Turk bolting to Europe next season could very well become a huge possibility...

Your thoughts?

I dont think so - maybe if he was a few years younger maybe when the leagues innevitably start to take off. That said he may well end his career out there when his NBA career is all but over.

Thing is to play in the NBA for Europeans, especially his "generation" is such a feat [remember we dont have school/college systems - way less scouting] - and he gets to be remembered in his country and "the first, help paving the way" and what not.

I think for the forseeable future he'll be here in the NBA.

He is from Europe, he played there so yes there is a def a chance that he would consider going back to Europe if the Magic dont extend him with the way that these Euro teams are throwing money this summer. I hope not.

Hedo has always had the opportunity to make a fortune and be a superstar back home. He chose to come here. He has said that after he retires as a player he wants to become a GM. That suggests that he wants to stick with the NBA. As nice and appreciative as he is to the fans from home, I think he would find it a burden to put up with them all the time. I have no doubt that he intends to get a nice raise in his next contract, but I think that is mostly a matter of pride rather than finances. Hedo strikes me as the kind of guy who has invested his money well and is already set for life, which is not true of many NBA players.

I doubt any time soon. He'll be looking for bigger money pretty soon.

He will be looking for big money but that doesn't mean he needs to go to Europe. He is a good enough player to get a really nice contract here in the NBA.

Like others are saying, I could see him eventually playing there after his NBA career winds down.

The thing with the Euro leagues is that they seem to be overpaying for borderline/fringe NBA starters or important role players - that seems to be the market they're tapping right now. The all-star or near all-star types of players are getting the big bucks in the NBA, which is mostly why I expect to see him stay in the U.S.

(Basically, until I see a high caliber player leave the NBA to go overseas, I won't count on it happening with Hedo...)

For those of you that dont know the contracts that the Euro teams are offering are much better than they sound. The money they get is all bank because the teams they sign for pay the taxes for them. Also, they typically get a house/apartment, a car, a bunch of plane tickets to go to and from the US for family and friends and stuff. There is no reason why a player like Childress, West or others wouldnt go, but it seems like a player like Hedo would be offered a large enough contract to stay around in the US, but you never know whats going to happen.

1) No, not next year. He is going to stay in Orlando and sign for a 5 yr 60M $ contract. He enjoys being the go-to-guy status in Orlando and Otis & Stan values his contributions and they will show this next year with the signing.
2) Eventually he might go to Europe to finish his career off after the one he will sign next year ends.
3) His style fits Orlando very well but also, his stock is very high in Europe where he can play all 4 positions (1-4). Before coming into NBA, he did play very well in Europe and he improved every year. Before this breakout season in NBA, we could've seen he was on something big this season with the performance he showed in Eurobasket 2007 in Spain.

My best bet is, Hedo will be in Orlando till at least 2014.

Who knows and can anyone really say what will happen in that situation. If the Magic low ball him or low ball him and try to make him go back to the bench so Rashard can play SF then he might start thinking about Europe.

I could very much seeing him do what old footballers do over here - go and play when their career's at the top level are over and go play for a team that can use his services [not just in a journey man vet way or like Zo etc.. but I mean cant play NBA level ne more].

That would be the worst possible thing for the Magic. We would end up with nothing for him and be screwed.

We could end up with nothing for him anyway. IMO the Hedo situation needs to be taken care sooner than later. Next offseason is not going to be like this offseason. This year we had just a few teams under the cap. Next year I'm expecting as many as 10 teams under the cap. If we can't get Hedo to extend his contract we would have to consider trading him at the deadline. No way would I let him become an unrestricted free agent. To many of those teams under the cap could be looking for a player just like Hedo.

I agree we cannot let him walk for nothing. Hopefully, we can work out an extension so we do not have to worry about it. However, I would trade him as well if he wouldn't agree to an extension and he wants to test free agency.

I totally agree. We need to have an extension by the deadline this year, or a trade. Nothing is guaranteed in this league, and you can't rely on loyalty. Grant was supposed to help us out too. I believe he wants to stay with the team, but I also believe Otis is looking to low ball him if he is even looking to retain him. Hopefully we can get him to sign a three or four year extension for 8M per on average, but realistically I see him getting dealt at the deadline. Otis isn't going to pay big bucks for a guy that he would like to have come off the bench. Lewis is going to go back to the three very soon imo.

As far as him going back to Europe, I don't really see that. Only if the market dries up like it did for Childress, but like Rich said there is going to be more teams vying for players next year, and thats only if he doesn't get a contract extension. If not with us, at least a sign and trade, or an agreement for an extension with the new team he gets traded to. He's been in the states for too long, and shouldn't have the ties back home like a lot of the guys that we are hearing about still do. Biedrins, Sasha, etc haven't been here that long and its easier sometimes to go back to what you know, especially if the money is as good or even better.
