With that kinda statement you're asking for Maginno and Richboy to come over, c'mon :P
But I have to agree* I liked the Pietrus signing and the fact he's not messing with the "core" that brought us 50+ wins last season. Especially by keeping Hedo.

Yes this has to be a joke thread. You rather Mickael Pietrus than JR Smith. He couldn't get JR smith for the MLE. He overpaid MP. MP has the same issues that you get with Smith but about 1/10th the talent.

Lol, where is this coming from....? Did JR do something wrong or something??

IMO, Aside from some "possible" character issues I cant see how anyone would want Pietrus over JR........with that said tho, I like our team.

there's no "possible" to these issues, they have been there quite clearly...people change...but at the same time, this kid has yet to grasp that and move himself beyond his shadow...and I for one like MP over Smith, he's more swiss army than Smith and I think that is something we needed badly...overpaid or not...plus his defense is greater than Smith's and he can guard bigger players with that defense...I cant wait for tip off 08...

i'd take jr over mp twice on tuesdays. JR can dunk..score at will..be an allstar....His defense isn't too bad..sometimes his head is not in the game but when it is...fogettabbaaat it..

I'd trade Hedo for JR right now if I could..and you guys know how much I like hedo on this team.

Smith has been close to being a train wreck his entire career.

Talented, yes............

True, I agree. I think JR grew up a bit last season tho. Dont get me wrong, I am a fan Pietrus, but dont u think JR is just the better basketball player? They are both amazing athlete's but JR has shown to be more consistant on the court and is the better creator on the offensive end.......I guess MP's D makes up for that, but then there's the age factor, and then I would say JR has the higher ceiling.......I agree tho, i like MP alot for our team, but it's a stretch to say "I can't believe someone would want JR over MP".

I don't want JR Smith anywhere around this team. I would take Pietrus any day. Yes, JR is supremely talented but I don't want that mess around here. We needed a 2 guard who could specialize in defense and we got that in MP. Enough said.

Actually Otis has done a good job this offseason. He's made moves to improve the team and isn't sitting on his hands like a lot of other GMs are.

Pietrus fits the team. The Magic needed a bigger and better defender at the 2 and thats what we got. Smith is a better scorer and 3pt shooter, but the Magic were #6 in the league last season in pts scored (104.5), #4 in 3pt % (.39), and #5 in FG % (47.44), we obviously have enough shooters and scoring options as it is, there's no need for Smith.

JR Smith is a very talented player that get in his own way with his stupid behavior. He is very similar to Ricky Davis. Similar to Ricky, every team he plays for is willing to get rid of him as soon as they can. I remember after he was drafted Spike TV ran that show called The Rookies, were they followed the rookie class of 2004 around. Their was this one scene where David Wesley and JR Smith were talking and Smith asked if morning shoot around was optional. That showed some insight into his mentality and work ethic. That has not changed at all with his years in the league. He is not a good defender. That was one of the reasons that he got benched with the Hornets. So what if he can dunk. So can 99% of the league. He is not worth the risk.

I will say that I think some of the knocks on JR are overblown, but there is no doubt that Otis has done a great job. I have always liked MP and I think he's gonna have a great season next year with our team. Him starting under SVG and probably getting 25+ mins a game I think will allow his #'s to improve sigificantly. He is also that LeBron/DWade stopper that will be key in the playoffs and is great rebounder. All of the recent championship teams seem to have a defensive specialist....SAS(Bowen), MIA(Posey), BOS(Posey).....If Lee can step in and have an impact this year too, then that would just be a bonus. So our guard situation is looking much improved, Props to Otis. If we could somehow make another move or 2 before training camp to get Critt or someone else, that would just be gravy.

Totally satisfied with what we got. Maggette would have been nice, but Pietrus was my number one realistic offseason target. JR Smith is a mental midget. We needed defense on the perimeter, and MP is going to help mask a lot of Jameer's flaws. He's twice as athletic as Evans, but with near Artest type defense. Its going to make a big difference next year.

He definately can be an allstar, but heres the thing he wont any time soon, he is still too much about himself; and still thinks hes a "GANGSTA" Plus he is the ALLTIME chucker, Ive seen him take the dumbest shots ever, way too streaky for me. PASS ill take MP

I would've taken Pietrus over JR Smith easily too.

JR Smith is certainly not a good fit for this team talent-wise or character-wise. Smith has the talent of a superstar but doesn't appear to have the heart of one...at least not yet.

Lmao at J.R. Smith being an all-star all he is good for is 3's and highlight dunks in games where the team is already up 40 plus why would Orlando even think about entertaining the idea of getting J.R. Smith instead of Pietrus when Pietrus is clearly the better player...and trading Turkoglu ( who got snubbed as an all-star ) for Smith is just down right ludicrous

Yes JR Smith is more talented and probably a better player than MP, but you are forgetting this team needs perimeter defense, that was one of our most pressing needs in the offseason. We got LIT up by Richard Hamilton in the playoffs, JR Smith wouldn't do any better than Mo on Rip, but MP is a good man and great help defender. JR Smith is a great scorer and could average 20ppg at some point in his career but he's not what this team needs. We already have 3 legit 20ppg threats, we don't rly need another. JR Smith is pretty one dimensional too, hes a great scorer and pretty efficient (46.1 FG%, 40.3 3PT %, 71.9 FT%, .603 TS%, .578eFG%) and is an average passer (3.2 APG per 36minutes) compared to (1.3APG per 36 for MP) but Pietrus is better than him on Rebounding (6.6 per 36 vs. 3.9 per 36) and Rebound Rate (9.8% vs. 5.8%). Despite playing 6 minutes less per game MP also had more Defensive Win Shares 4.4 vs 3.9. And his defensive rating is better 107 vs 109. MP was slightly overpaid but fits the Magic's immediate needs more. The Magic also don't rly take chances on players w/ character issues so MP was an obvious choice for the Magic.
