Johnny Davis sighting

Post#1 » by magicfanatic23 » Fri Aug 1, 2008 5:18 pm

Off topic story today but it was interesting. I was at Panera Bread getting some lunch today. I go up to get my drink and I see Johnny Davis the former assistant and head coach of the Magic standing right there. I talked to him for a few minutes about the league. He was wearing a Memphis Grizzlies shirt and I asked him if he was an assistant there and he said yes. I asked him about their moves in the offseason and he said they think OJ Mayo could be an all star within the next few years which didn't surprise me much. But then he told me how difficult it is for the coaching staff there because of ownerships unwillingness to spend money. I found that very interesting b/c I didn't expect that to come from him considering he works for them. After I asked him what he thought of the Magic. He said that he thinks they are the team to watch in the next few years in the East and he thinks they are close to overtaking Detroit and maybe Boston. He praised the team especially Dwight and said he is glad to see things looking good for the Magic. He is a real nice guy and it was interesting to chat with him for a little while. That's my story for today.

well that's cool. I did not mind Johnny to much when he was here. I just could not stand our team at that point. He did a good job with what he had to work with.

I did ask him about their PG situation and he said that they liked having a lot of different options including maybe playing Mayo as PG but will probably have to move one. He said they were undecided on who they want to move. So then I mentioned Critt and he said they like him b/c he has so much potential but he did say he is being discussed. That's as far as I went.

I'll never forget that 2004 video the magic gave out that year about the "turnaround" they had, and I remember the section with Dwight Howard and Johnny Davis was talking about him saying him scoring and said if he wants to score "he can go get the ball himself off the glass anytime he wants"

lol i remember everyone would complain d12 never got the ball, he once said he would get like 20 phone calls at the half from friends/family asking why he never gets the ball...funny stuff

Johnny Davis was a really nice guy, just not a great coach, good to see he's with the grizzlies...

now all we need to know is find out where old puck is :/ .....
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

lol HC= head coach..... basically, she (mom) is a really attractive lady (IMO) and she at least at one point liked to live the life of a socialite type... you know always up in the clubs, the nicest resturaunts downtown, nicest bars... etc. All this said whenever she would go to a magic game she'd be sitting in the best seats. (close to the benches) apparently J. Davis approached her and started talking to her, exchanged some numbers, and he would continuously try to set up dates. My GF was younger at the time, so she was extatic about possibly meeting T-mac and stuff. Mom found out that JD had a wife... so no go on that one. She's also been pursued lightly by tyron lue and our main man HEDO, who used to live in her same building. I wasn't on the scene at this time so I am only going by her stories and my gf's.

Johhny Davis = nice guy = bad NBA head coach.

Best of luck to him.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability
