Everytime i turn the TV on its Favre, everytime i check the sports website its Farve. The ESPN bottom line has a whole section devoted to the semi-God. All i keep hearing is Farve this Farve that. They show images of him walking out of airplane. They talk about his text messages lol. They dissect which teams would trade for him. Try counting how many times the word "Favre" is mentioned on ESPN every minute, its impossible. I say enough of this nonsense. The whole Favre worship needs to stop. Its disgusting. I never seen anything as ridiculous as this. As far as i am concerned only Diener and Gortat should be glorified in such a way lol, and even then it would get old fast.

I vividly remember a far worse abuse of media on one human being, and his name is LeBron James. I despised him just because the media was so in his anus you could see what he had for breakfast, and what he was having for lunch later on.

The coverage of Farve has been pathetic.

ESPN should be ashamed of it's milking of this situation.

WHO CARES! He's an OLD QB who's best days are long gone.

Nice guy, an HOF'er down the road, but he isn't worthy of all of this attention.

Has ESPN gotten so lazy that it can't report real sports news, instead of running day long scrolls of phony breaking news?

I guess everyone is still on vacation......

His off-field indecision is, for me, starting to overshadowing his on-field achievements.

For the past 3 or 4 off-seasons now the Pack have been held up by him not knowing if he will or won't return.

What if he retires again? Will he cry like a baby again, only to come back the next season?

Will he retire the 3rd time with a press conference again?

As much of an iron-man he's been on the field, he's lately been a drama-queen off the field.

I agree that the coverage is excessive, but you have to admit it's a pretty compelling story. This would be getting tons of coverage even in January when there are 10,000 other stories to cover. One of the best QB's of all-time retires and un-retires, his own team doesn't want him back and even offers to pay him not to play, the possibility of an inter-divisional trade...that's pretty crazy stuff. But the fact that it's summer only amplifies the coverage because there's nothing else going on.

Honestly, I'm enjoying this sports story.

I don't mind ESPN talking about it 'round the clock. It's actually about something *important* instead of the same old "OMG look at Kobe" or "T.O. lol wut" stories that we usually get when nothing else is going on.

It's Brett Favre. I don't mind.

For me it's ruining a great moment in sports history.

For me it's like Clemons ruining his retirement. It was a great moment in sports history his last inning pitched during in the World Series, with all the flash bulbs going off because he threw his last pitch, as he was a certain HOFer (before the scandals).

But then when he came back it took that great moment in history and made it meaningless.

It's the same with Brett - he took a great moment of his retirement press conference and ruined it. Regardless of how he handled it (crying like a baby), that moment in history is meaningless now. What's replaced it? This current soap opera.

Using a phrase like the "integrity of the sport being violated" is probably a bit to strong, but it's awfully close for me.

A player of his stature should just ride off into the sunset, instead of being a prima-dona/drama-queen/throwing a tantrum. It's the same when Jordan retired and came back as a Wiz. It tarnished his legacy imo.

Especially players that have been linked with a single organization for their entire tenure shouldn't play for other teams - again like Jordan - at the twilight of their career. To me, again, it ruins their legacy.

Yeah, for people like me who don't give a rat's a$$ about football, all the Farve coverage is getting pretty annoying.

I realize I'm in the minority here, and that's perfectly fine. In fact, I'd rather Favre had just stayed retired as well.

But this is about the ESPN coverage on his return. Like Gerhalt said, its a compelling story, and one that I am enjoying watching unfold.

As soon as Favre is signed by the TB Bucs, the media storm will soften.

It sounds, to me, like your beef is with Favre, not the media. I agree with you 100%. Favre should have stayed retired and doing what he's doing is doing irreparable damage to his legacy. But regardless, it's still important to the world of sports and is, therefore, worthy of media coverage. You obviously have a strong opinion on the matter, as do a lot of people, myself included. I'm just a little confused as to how you transfer that negative opinion away from Favre (whose fault this is) towards the media (whose job it is to cover it).

It's not a question of it's worthy of coverage, because it is.

But you turn on ESPN and they lead with "Day 12 of Favre saga ... and no new news." Then they continue with "Let's recap everything in that's happened for the past 2 weeks." After that's finished you hear from 10 talking heads that have nothing new to add. Next they show for the umptenth time the stat comparison between Favre and Rodgers. So for the 1st 10 to 15 minutes it's much ado about nothing, "reporting" on nothing.

It's not that it's being covered, it's the inordinate amount of coverage, focus and drama they (not just ESPN) are heaping on the already pitiful situation.

I understand it's their job to cause a buzz so people will stay tuned - to them is their preference - to get the latest details. But to me, the buzz they are generating > the actual story - which in large part because of the drama Brett himself created.

I hate what Favre is doing. He's forcing himself back onto the Packers. They don't want to pay him that 12M and have already committed to Rodgers. They can't afford to release him either, for fear that he will go to a division rival and have to face him twice a year. Anyone that officially retires, meaning filling out paperwork and having it accepted not just a teary press conference, they need to stay retired for a year. There is no way that he should be allowed to come back just before training camp and forcing anyone's hand. Now he will probably win the job and start for them. I hate prima dona behavior, and it does taint his legacy.

This guy is less than one season removed from being a game away from the Superbowl. I was totally rooting for him to beat the Pats once my Jags were out. If he did would everyone still have the same disdain if he said he wanted to play? Plus, with the reports that the Packers Brass pushed him out into pasture early I can understand this situation... The guy just wants to play. I mean sure he's a prima donna, but after seeing what he did last season... I'd let the guy play another year. If Rodgers is their guy, then cut him or trade him.

If he wanted to play so badly, he shouldn't have retired, end of story. I don't buy this whole "Packers forced him into it" nonsense. He carries more water than just about any other player in the league when it comes to influencing decisions. If he still wanted to play, and he just didn't want to play for the Packers, they would have worked out a buyout package that would have cost the team a damn sight less than the $20 million they just offered him to stay retired so he could go play for whoever he wanted. Or they would have simply traded him to keep him out of Minnesota. Favre said "I'm done," the Packers said "okay" and moved on, as any team would.

He's been hemming and hawing for the past 3 or 4 off seasons about if he was going to return. Usually he held off until not too long before the training camps began. This time he said he was done. The team planned to move forward with this in mind.

Now he's deciding to come back again.... again not too long before training begins.

I can't wait for the media circus next year.
