J-Smooth to the Grizzlies?

Post#1 » by glennathan » Fri Aug 8, 2008 3:17 pm

Here is another one for people to look at. Could this be the start to the Grizzlies signing big names? If they get him who else are they going to go after. This is a huge improvement to their front court IMO.

here is the link.

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... fer_sheet/

Again I know it is only an offer sheet but if they Grizzlies get him they just improved alot. Their lineup could look like this

PG - Mike Conley Jr.
SG - Marko Jaric/O.J. Mayo
SF - Rudy Gay
PF - Josh Smith
C - ???

Not to bad for what they have.

I did not know if Darko was still there and I thought Pau's Brother played SF. Well now I know and I still think they are going to get a big boost if they land Smith.

If they do get Josh Smith, the Grizzlies instantly become one young, talented and potentially dangerous team. If OJ Mayo turns out to be the star everyone believes he can be, they will be set in 3 positions for the next decade, should they only gel this year and still end up with a good pick in the draft, they'll be in position to compete in the West for years.

Lets not forget that Atlanta still has the option to match. If so we still got to worry about Atlanta now in th east.

One question I have is IF Atlanta matches the offer sheet can any other team still go after Smith or is he then officially part of the hawks?

anyone see how long a term, 58mil over how many years, I believe the hawks will match that prob a 5 year deal I cant see him getting almost 15 mil a year on a 4 year contract, that will make the grizzlies much better but not a playoff team IMO

Being a restricted FA gives the player the ability to test the waters. But at the same time, gives his current team the upper hand in keeping their player.

As opposed to a unrestricted FA - where the team doesn't have the matching abilities to keep the player. However, their upper hand is the rights they may have for the player - allowing them to offer more $$ than most other teams.

here is what atlanta lineup will look like if they do not match

PG: Mike Bibby
SG: Joe Johnson
SF: Mo Evans
PF: Al Horford
C: Zaza Pachulia

With signing your lineup looks like this

PG: Mike Bibby
SG: Joe Johnson
SF: Mo Evans
PF: Josh Smith
C: AL Horford

But the prob with matching the offer is that this is your lineup for the next 2 years at least. I see the hawks in the same predicament as us. We have to go through the Draft to get players until 2010. after next season our cap space is huge.

pretty sure Evans will come off the bench and Marvin Williams will start at the 3, in either lineup...

I forgot about Williams. What is your opinion on the matching Thief? do you think atlanta has to in order to stand a chance in the east?

They definitely should match, but Atlanta's been an awful franchise for a long time for a reason.

they should definitely match, Smith is essentially their franchise player...who knows, ATL may surprise yet again...If Memphis front loads the deal, idk...
