OT: Daunte Culpepper Retires

MIAMI (AP)—Daunte Culpepper, who starred for the Minnesota Vikings before suffering a major knee injury in 2005, never returning to his past Pro Bowl form, retired from the NFL on Thursday.
Culpepper completed 64 percent of his passes in a nine-year career, with 142 touchdowns. He tried to resuscitate his career with the Miami Dolphins in 2006 and the Oakland Raiders last season, struggling in both of those stops, and wasn’t in training camp with any teams this year.
“Since I was not given a fair chance to come in and compete for a job, I would rather move on and win in other arenas of life,” Culpepper said.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=a ... &type=lgnsSeems like just yesterday he was on the cover of Madden, a perennial 1st round fantasy pick, and a superstar QB. I cannot believe no team out there wanted to take a chance on him.
I have a feeling he'll come back at some point. Hopefully.

Very sad day, the UCF kids have been talking about him all day.

Culpepper has really done himself harm the last two years.
It's too bad that he has alienated every NFL team by representing himself, and it's sad too, because he's still capable of playing, and playing well. There are many QB's that lack DC's presence, arm, and experience.

I'm a Raiders fan; I still remember (and love) the game he started for us against the Dolphins and almost single handedly dismantled their team. And then when he rushed into the endzone for one of his scores, then pointed at his knee and gave the "A OK" sign. Oh man that was great.

I was watching ESPN during my lunch break, and one of the analysts mentioned that the buzz around the league is if/when a starter goes down sometime during the season, Daunte will be getting a call.
I think him "retiring" was sort of a PR move to get more people talking about him.

That would scare many teams.
I think what scares teams more though is Culpepper's attitude towards his own personal management philosophy and the NFL. He's getting something of a "deserved" blackball.

Doubt he'll be going to the Patriots, but apparently Moss did mention him to the coaches.
Man that would be sweet. I'm a sucker for old school teammate reunions.

I know me too, maybe they can reenact the Love Cruise scene on the Boston Harbor lol.
(Not one of Dante's best moments.)
