Well-traveled free agents Eddie Gill or Mike Wilks are in the mix to be signed as the Orlando Magic’s third point guard, according to Magic General Manager Otis Smith.
Smith said that the Magic will add another point before training camp begins Sept. 29 at RDV Sportsplex to provide depth behind starter Jameer Nelson and backup Anthony Johnson.
Gill, 6-foot, and Wilks, 5-10, are six-year veterans. "We’ll bring in a few players. We’re close on a couple of guys," Smith said.
Smith said the club likely will bring in another wing player and another big man to camp.

Eddie Gill would be an ok option for 3rd PG. In the D-League he averaged 18ppg,5rpg,8apg. Solid stats for a D-League player. He would be solid PG for when/if we have a good 4th quarter lead. We don't really need anything more out of a 3rd PG, so why not.

Eddie Gill was awesome in that game against us after the Malice at the Palace, when Indy only had 6 players and nearly won.

funny how the day someone starts a who is gonna be the third pg thread this comes out... dont know anything about either of them but gill's stats look good. they are both on the shorter side. but hey its a good pick up in my mind, they wont be complaining saying they deserve more PT. Did you see the wiretap that Golden State signed three people today?

of the two, Eddie Gill would be nice...he was touted as a big time player when he was first coming into the league...I saw him play overseas a few times...plays very smart, has a great offensive game and is a passer, also plays some good defense, VERY QUICK...Mike Wilks is a better defender and a better leader...

I was looking at their stats for the games they were in the nba and Wilks looked like he did slightly better... on the new wiretap on the front page it also says we are likely to bring in another big for training camp

Your gonna see a lot of this from teams with roster spaces to fill. Bring in as many people as you'd like to try to fill those spots, cut those who you feel you won't be able to utilize.
Didn't Mike Wilks play for the Spurs? I believe he played for the championship team if I'm not mistaking. Wasn't an important part to the team but could bring some knowledge of what it's like to play that deep in the playoffs. Either one could be a solid 3rd PG option.

Nothing kind of move. Really would rather have Arroyo back if this is the replacement. I can't even really say the PG spot is improved much if at all.

If Arroyo was willing to come back and fight for the 2nd and 3rd Option at PG, and was willing to take a contract suitable to the Magic, he would have been back. Management seemed to like him, and he definitely was good for the Latin crowd, thus us having Latin Night. But fact is, he felt he deserved a good chunk of change, and a better role. Just so happened that opportunity wasn't in the NBA. I'm sure a lot of people would have taken him as a 2nd or 3rd option at the RIGHT PRICE.

I have to say....if that is who the Magic end up signing, I don't think the PG rotation will be as strong as last year's. Both those guys have struggled to stay in the league pretty much every season.

If Arroyo would have wanted to come back for whatever these guys were going to be paid I'd have lapped him up...
Theres joing to be more pressure on Meer than ever this year, AJ to me is a third stringer and having him as a backup is going to be stretching it... we really need Meer to play like he did in the postseason all season, and thats going to be tough.
It almost seems like each year they want to go with almost the exact same team as last year and just try and plug one hole per offseason... maybe by 2010-11 we will have a solid backup PG and a banger to play next to Dwight.

Idk i think one of them can fill the third string role.. i really like anthony johnson at second string, and if jameer plays as well as he can, i think one of these guys can be ok for the third stringer

I think I would go with the Eddie Gill choice. I saw some clips of him in the D-League and thought he was pretty good. I liked the defense he was bringing in. I don't know much if anything on Mike Wilks.

Both Gill and Wilks were 10-day guys with Seattle last year.
Wilks won an NBA Championship.
Gill scored the 8-millionth point in NBA history.

Another point from this Schmitz blog:
Smith said the club likely will bring in another wing player and another big man to camp.
