What do you think our chances of getting #2 seed are?

Post#1 » by DiplomaticMagic » Sat Apr 4, 2009 10:16 pm

Boston is now on a 4-day break, and come back to play Wednesday to play the Nets.

Boston at 58-19 has 5 more games.
Nets
Heat
@Cavs
@Sixers
Wizards

Orlando at 57-19 have 6 games left
@Rockets
Grizzlies
Knicks
@Nets
@Bucks
Bobcats

You have to say we're the favorite for every game. But can we win 8 in a row? Hopefully Boston will be rusty with their 4 day rest. But I doubt it, Their game @Cavs is a big one!

So what do you think about the chances?

We should be able to win the last 5 games barring a similar effort against the Raptors, only 1 really scares me and that's the Bobcats IF they are still in the playoff hunt. I don't think they will be. I think we have a pretty good chance if we can beat either the Hawks tonight and/or the Rockets. Lose both and you are the 3 and win both and I think we are sitting great for the 2. I think we can lose 1 more game and still get the 2 seed.

Boston's next 4 should be difficult with the 4 day rest before they play the Nets, plus the Heat and Sixers lobbying for playoff positioning and the Cavs in the Q. You saw how off we were after our 4 day rest, so it could take a little while for them to get back in rhythm and could allow the Nets to steal one. I could see them going 2-2 in that span, which would open the door if we can go 6-1.

Some good points, but with Celtics being a veteran team, I think they'll be fine with the 4 day rest. It's not like the Nets are a great team in the first place. Hopefully they'll lose to Heat or Sixers.

Ughhh if only we beat Toronto!!

so do I. . .I think it's going to come down to the Hawks game tonight and the Rockets game tues. If we win those, I think we can run the table the rest of the way to the playoffs. DEF easier said than done

Boston has more home games... they barely lose at home.. but we're not exactly bad on the road. It really is a toss up.. and with Detroit looking like it will stay in that 8th seed, I am really pulling for us to go hard for that spot

We have to win one of these next two games either at Atlanta or at Houston and then win out. If we do that I think we can get the 2 seed. If we lose more than 1 game the rest of the season we will be the 3 seed.

it all comes back to the same old question, how bad do we want/need homecourt? how bad does svg want it? Since the boston game, the magic are playing their bench players an average of 80 minutes a game. during an earlier in the season hawks game, we used only 52 bench minutes, and in an earlier cavs game, we used 56. So even though we're getting rest for our guys, we're winning. Hope we can keep up our great bench play, rest our starters, and keep getting W's, if we do, we've got the 2 spot.

i think we can run the table. if we do, not only do we get the 2 seed (most likely), but momentum going into the playoffs, winning 14 out of 15 games

if the team stays focused and we beat Houston, I think we'll get it (because we should win out, keyword: should). Meanwhile Boston plays the Heat, and then @ Philly and @ Cleveland. Cleveland will still be trying to hold off L.A. for HCA, so that could be a loss, and Miami can win any day with Wade, and Philly is dangerous cause they're playing for positioning in the playoffs as well.

So while we have one tough game, they have 3 tough games (1 of which is very tough). So statistically speaking we have to be the favorite to get it, but who knows. We could fall asleep on someone, or Boston could run the table.

I'm not too worried. If we get it, great. If not, we're guaranteed not to face Detroit.
It's a win-win either way.
I just want 61 wins.

Unfortunately our destiny is not completely in our hands. Even if we win all of our games from here on out, if Boston doesn't lose either, then we're still gonna be #3 because they have the tie break. So until the Celts lose 1 our chances at #2 is zero.

As Boston must lose one game for Orlando to win the #2 seed, the odds are clearly below half. I would say it is around a 20% chance.

The @Houston is also a large hurdle for Orlando. Both teams will play this game rested. But Orlando wll not be favored.

For Boston, the largest tests are @Cleveland and @Philadelphia. Cleveland plays its home game rested, as does Phily.

I would guess that Orlando will go 4-2 and Boston will go 4-1.

I'd say it is pretty good. I see the Celtics losing at least 2 more games, while I think if the Magic beat the Rockets on the road, they will run the table and win their remaining 5, posting a franchise best, 63 wins in one season.

Probably a tie.

Regardless of where we finish I really hope they try to send a message with this last stretch of games by absolutely destroying everyone. Put that fear out there going into the playoffs.
