Marc Stein votes Stan as CoY

Post#1 » by drsd » Sat Apr 11, 2009 2:14 pm

There were six names I would classify as finalists for the three spots on my actual ballot: Van Gundy, Cleveland's Brown, Miami rookie Erik Spoelstra and the inseparable West triumvirate of Denver's George Karl, Portland's Nate McMillan and Houston's Rick Adelman.

In the end?

I'm going with Van Gundy.

StM has done an excellent job this year. This leads to the fan question as to this year's best coach.

For the record, I do not think the Stan will win. Mike Brown would be my vote. StM would be second on my ballot, if I had a ballot.

SVG should get COY but I think it goes to Mike Brown.

He'd have my vote too, but I am biased.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

Mike Brown will get it simply so the LBJ hysteria continues - but also because he's done well to get that team to 66 wins, +15 or whatever from a season ago.

SvG is equally deserving, but I just don't think he'll get the respect he deserves.

Oh wow, I thought he made the decisions up there too.
