Both were supposed to go earlier, but slid because of one or two concerns (size & shooting Maxey)(size and lack of athleticism McCain). Both were drafted more for their value as a prospect earmarked for a midseason trade. Both got thrust into the lineup due to injuries and both ran with the opportunity.

The craziest part, both were passed over by the Miami Heat one pick before us.

Do we dare to dream lightning struck twice?

I think it's pretty clear already that lightning struck twice. The only thing that will keep McCain from producing is if the coach decides to limit his mins for some reason. When everyone is back he should still be playing at least 30 mpg.

Whatever role they thought Eric Gordon might have, give it to McCain and then some.

I get the point from a stylistic point of view, but just to put this performance in perspective (based on quick bbref scan), Klay never reached 10 AST in a single game.

Obviously this is not the standard for McCain, but these 10 assists were no fluke either. Driving into the paint for smart and difficult kick-outs is certainly not a typical thing for a true shooting guard, certainly not a rookie.
If he can be a reliable playmaker aside from the floor spacing and decent point of attack defense, we've hit the jackpot.

I don't like the Klay comp either. As you said, McCain already looks like he'll be a superior playmaker, but he'll also never be the defensive stopper that was one of prime Klay's hallmarks. If McCain can even be net neutral on the defensive end, and he has the bulk to be able to hold up on that end, it will be enough with his offensive upside.

McCain also isn’t close to Klay as an off ball shooter, at least not now. He has a pretty low release point and doesn’t really take movement shots of any kind (let alone the wild fadeaway spins off picks), can’t get off shots like Klay could for all of his prime. Remember prime Klay could score 50 sometimes just from catch and shoot.

McCain also figures to shoot quite a for more 3s off the bounce than prime Klay did. He’s much more of a creator than just an off ball sniper.
I don't think he can ever be an elite off the ball sharpshooter like Klay was that goes in like butter. Very few can.

I hope the Cavs win it all. They're really the only likeable team in the east with a realistic chance to win it all. Mitchell is such a baller. I feel like he's still somehow underrated

Klay may be the 2nd best shooter all time. You don't have to be as good to play similarly. Even twins aren't the same, it's a comparison or truly a projection of where he needs to work towards. Early Klay was never a volume ball handler with Steph and Monte, Robinson or David Lee, Bogut, Draymond running more offense. But he's always come off of screens for pullup 3s or in transition, bump off mid range pull-up and has gotten to the rim (remember the key to the warriors was Klay and Steph movement shooting spaces and causes confusion, but they all focus on paint points). Also a underrated passer with a underrated 1 on 1 game. Never a lead guard level passer or anything, but neither was McCain in college really.

His handling and passing still has a ways to go, and he can go that route due to his size (as I also clearly brought up Jamal Murray) but he'll be best to be great off ball too for the team and himself.

The idea that he does no movement shooting can easily be disproved with three minute highlights from his last three games on YouTube
