#3/Embiid/Oubre for #7/Zion/Jones. Draft Maluach at #7.
Maxey/McCain/Butler
Grimes/Edwards/Gordon
George/Jones/Council
Zion/(TMLE)/(#35)
Maluach/Bona/Drummond
Reset NOW.
This is a trade I would do. Drafting Maluach even makes sense in this scenario. Best part is, Zion's contract is UNG. Get tired of him being fat and hurt? See ya.
The only thing is... unless Zion is playing 60+ games, this is a borderline play-in team. And Harris and Morey and Nurse aren't trying to have a borderline play-in team.
Yea, I'd also offer NOP a lightly-protected 2028 1st swap if that's what it took. Sadly, we know how this is probably going to go with Embiid. We should have traded him last summer, especially after seeing how he looked in the Olympics. We have another chance this summer. Trade him now before the wheels completely fall off. I don't want this to turn into Yao Ming, where Morey holds out hope and gets nothing of value for him.
As for Zion, like you said, the contract is non-guaranteed. He's only 24, and if he musters up 1-2 MVP caliber seasons over the next 4 years, then you have a shot to steal a title.
I just no longer feel that way about Embiid, even though I love the big fella and everything he's done for this franchise. If we were going to win with Embiid as the best player, it would've already happened. It's so much less likely to be during his age 31 season, coming off another knee surgery. Hell, Giannis and Jokic were both eliminated before the conference finals. Why should we expect an Embiid-led team to do any better in today's NBA?
