Thad Our First Opption in the Future?...

Post#1 » by Hussien Fatal » Sat Feb 2, 2008 6:33 am

Personally i think he can be our first opption in about 2 years, Thad's post moves are excellent and if he grows a couple more inches he could be something special. He also is a great rebounder and his passing skills are underated at this point. Hes obviously not a selfish player he seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and it seems like he wants to learn and become a better basketball player. His jump shot looks pretty ligit also, and on defense he makes rookie mistakes but that will go away in time, he still looks like he could be a great defender. At this point i dont know which NBA player reminds me of Thad to me his game is much diffrent from a lot a players and thats a good trait to have as an NBA player. But my question to you is do you think Thad can be our first opption in about 2 years?

I like your optimism but I'm going to say "no, he won't become our #1 in 2 years" and he won't become our #1 at any point. I do think there's a chance that he becomes our #2 with Iguodala sliding to the more comfortable role of #3 on offense but #1 in our hearts.

I agree. I can see him developing into a more complete player than Iguodala when he reaches his prime. However, our #1 player should, and most likely will be a player with a strong post prescence.

It's very hard to be a #1 option in this league without top notch handles. Thad would have to pick up this part of his game tremendously for him to develop into that.

Word, dabods.

Unless you are Shaq or Kareem, you have got to have a quality handle to be a number 1 guy...the only thing that I would say is that Thad is only 19, so there is time for his handle to get better...he's only been playing on the wing for a couple of years - unlike Iggy, who has already been doing it for 4 or 5 years...

Well, I hope he continues to start, so we can see if some of these statements are true.
Thad is a great offenensive rebounder, but he defensive rebounding lacks a little. I hope he continues to start at PF, so we can see how he handles himself. he does have very good post moves, and he will liekly add some strength over the next couple of years.
Of course, if he grows about 2-3 inches, he could definetely be a PF... I just don't know how likely that is.

I would much rather see thad develop his outside game and his handle so he can move to sf. Say that we picked up Brand in the offseason, he would be our #1 option and iggy #2, maybe even williams as #3 offence threat. Thad could be #4 or #5 including Sam.

No, but as others have said, I could see him sharing the #2 role with iggy, we still need that #1 guy

He's basically just an opportunistic scorer right now. It's extremely hard to tell if he can be a top option at this point. I do think his handles have improved a lot though this season, and I've seen definite flashes of #1/#2 material.

So far, Thaddeus Young hasn't disappointed me this season. I expected less from him, but he's consistent despite his flaws.

Sixers fans will be very impressed with Young, as he matures, and improves on his weaknesses.

Just get him on the floor. At this point he will improve with the experience whether it is in the post or the perimeter. A SF needs top be able to play both down low and in the wing anyway.

Eventually I see him more as a big SF, but this time at PF is better than having him ride the piune waiting for spot minutes behind Dala.

I'd be fine with starting Smith and Young (sitting Green) but Mo doesn't seem ready to do that yet, and it might be too much inexperience on the floor at once.

the only player I've seen develop handles like that and become a #1 option out of nowhere is T-Mac , I can't remember anybody else doing that

Two words....Paul Pierce

Pierce wasn't a very good ball handler at Kansas, or in his first few seasons. He does a good job of protecting the ball now.

Even Iguodala has improved his ball handling since he first entered the league.

If Young's handle becomes as good as T-Mac's, we've got a very good playmaker.

Pierce still isn't a very good ballhandler. I believe that's the only thing that's kept him from being in the true top echelon his entire career. I'll grant you they've gotten considerably better, but I wouldn't classify his handles as being good either.
