I don't think people understand basketball and contracts

Post#1 » by THFM » Sat Feb 9, 2008 2:36 pm

I know a lot of people got mad that Billy King over paid for Daly, but it wasn't Billy's fault. The Hawks gave Daly that contract and Billy matched. We had to match because we had no other legit Center and Daly played great in the playoffs vs the Pistons. There were no other Centers out on the Market that had Daly's Potential.

Also you have to remember sometimes players get over paid because that's what it takes to get them away from other teams. Guys like Okafor who should be getting like 60-65 will get 70-75 becasue if we offer around 65 Bobcats will match. But if we offer 75 Bobcats wont' and we can get him. Did we pay Okafor 75 becasue that's how much he is worth? NO, becasue that's how much it will take so Bobcats don't match.

Remember not all contracts are given soley on the players abilites and talents.

Atlanta never made an offer to Dalembert. Billy King signed him before he even visited the Hawks.

Other than that, I find it ironic that your post says "I don't think people understand basketball and contracts", the rest of your post (minus that which was factually incorrect) was completely obvious stuff. You have to overspend to sign restricted free agents? Really? I had no idea.

If you're going to get up on your soapbox and criticize other people's knowledge, I expected a better post than that.

daly shouldve been traded earlier that season for joe johnson and grob and green shouldve been traded for baron davis...we couldve had the ultimate "knick" like experience with a lineup of

baron davis
iverson
joe johnson
webber
marc jackson

seriously tho...that joe johnson debacle was a huge mis-step by king and his use of the grob expiring in 05 was terrible...interesting thinking back what couldve been

He wasn't allowed to trade Big Dog for a non expiring contract if I remember right.
