Miller is not bringing the Sixers a championship, but dealing him now doesn't bring you a championship either. His value in the off season or next trade deadline will be very high, and if they can add the right pieces this off season, the Sixers may be right in the middle of the playoff hunt and keep him. Very few players can be the pieces aroudn which a championship caliber team can be built...Shaq in his prime, Kobe, LeBron, Duncan...that's pretty much it in recent time. I don't think anyone has ever tried to put him in that category, but he is a very, very solid PG in the league...top 10 the way he is playing this season.

I think everyone here would be happy if a deal involving Miller brought us back a young top notch PF- but that was not an option yesterday. All he could have brought us is expirings and mid level players.
We still can move him this summer or next year, where his expiring status opens up more opportunities for him to be a valuable trade asset in landing the PF we need.
If we somehow can use our 10M plus another player to land the big we need, all the better.

I agree - Miller is not leading the '07-08 Sixers to the championship. However, the question is: if our young players continue to develop, and if Stefanski drafts and spends our cap-room wisely, can Miller lead the '09-10 Sixers deep into the playoffs?
I think he can...which is why I don't want to just give him away in a Bibby-like salary dump.
And - again - I respect those who do not share that opinion.

When I said "leading", I meant being the PG (and still an effective one)...if he is still the 1st or 2nd best player on this team in '09-10, we've got BIG problems. He should be like the 4th best player by then...with Thad, Iggy and our cap-room pick all being ahead of him.
33 mpg
13-14 ppg
7 ast/game (3/1 ast/TO ratio)
45-47% fg pct.
I think that is realistic.
