Giricek's not a bad player. He just doesn't fit the style of basketball being played (ie an emphasis on defense and fastbreaks off of turnovers).

I wonder about these moves sometimes. This move might be appeasing the agent more than the player. The agent gets a cut and maybe does the Sixers a favor sometime down the road (ie convincing a player he represents to sign with the Sixers).

BTW, his agent is Marc Fleisher, who represents notable players like Kirilenko and Tony Parker.

Well, I guess today is the day that we'll find out if the Sixers will cut Giricek or not. Since the team is in a playoff hunt, I doubt they let him go.

Well.... he was waived according to a press release shown on WireTap.

Press Release -
Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski announced today that the team has waived guard Gordan Giricek. Per team policy, terms of the agreement are not disclosed.

In 12 games with the Sixers, Giricek averaged 3.1 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 9.2 minutes, while shooting 31.7% (13-47) from the floor.

Of course he still comes off of the cap this season. Just because he doesn't play for us it doesn't mean that his contract somehow gets extended.

I imagine we'll hear that Giricek is signing with Phoenix in the next couple of days since Barry seems to have elected to go back to the Spurs.

To the guy's credit he didn't sit around bitching and making trouble about not playing. He got some pretty bad press in Utah, but seemed like a decent team guy in his short time here. Of course, watch us have a rash of injuries at the SG position now.
