Shav showed plenty of skill & athleticism before his injury. We simply haven't seen him since he got hurt. If he can't recover from his injury, he'll be out of the league when his contract is up. Basically, if he wasn't coming back this year he should have been cut & offered a training camp invitation next year.

Shav has a guaranteed contract for this year...and since there is nobody out there that we need his roster spot for, he is still on the roster presumably in the hope that he regains that little-bit-extra game he needs to be an effective NBA player. Right now, I don't have a problem with that...although I fear that the Shav that I loved last season may never be seen again.

Billy King watched tape with Coach K when Boozer entered the draft. According to Billy, K told him that he didn't think Boozer could play in the league and Billy bought into that and formed that opinion. Ever since that time, Billy hasn't listened to K regarding his players. When Shav came out, once again K told Billy that Shav couldn't play, but since K was so wrong the first time, Billy decided to take a chance on Shav.
Well, that is a nice story ... but as far as I am concerned that is all it is ... a story. Sorry, but it just doesn't have the ring of truth to it. And what is this "According to Billy" stuff ... You were speaking to Billy King ?

Randolph absolutely should be a rotation player. He's a guy who can come in and give you minutes without hurting you in any one facet. He's a good rebounder, a good team defender. I'd like to see him get regular minutes.

Maybe he can't come back.
Maybe he is only 90% back to his prior level...and that missing 10% is the difference between being a productive NBA player and just another body on the bench.
I hope that I am wrong. I hope that - over the summer - he can find that remaining 10% and be back in this team's plans, for all of the reasons you state - good individual/team defender, good rebounder, big, active body...but it is possible that the injury has robbed him of that extra half-step of quickness that he must have to be productive in the NBA.
As I said, I hope that I am wrong.

I've seen enough from him to know we should find out. He's rotated fine defensively from what I've seen.
Is it too little NBA game action to go off of? Obviously. Hence why we need to see more of him.

Perhaps the coaching staff knows more about Shav's current condition than you do.
Perhaps he has had his azz handed to him in practice, and you haven't seen it (unless you've been to PCOM).
Here's a question: if he really is all the way back, and Stefanski has made it abundantly clear that he wants the young guys to play, what is the rational explanation for Shav's lack of minutes? Why would Stefanski not want to know - before the season is over - where Shav's game is, and what would Mo's excuse be for not giving Stefanski that information?
I was one of Shav's biggest boosters on this forum last season before he got hurt (I was advocating buying out Webber to give Shav more burn before it was fashionable around here...and got buried by jem and others for advocating that). I would LOVE to see the Shav that was playing before he got hurt in our rotation. Don't you think that - if Shav was healthy enough to play, but getting buried on the bench for a reason other than an inability to play - we would be hearing more about this?
Somehow Mo found the time to play Carney - a guy who had done little through the first 30 games of the season and who had more players in front of him than Shav - probably at the behest of Stefanski. Why would he not do the same for Shav - at a position on the floor where we have less options then at the 2/3, and at a position where there will be a TON of focus this summer?
If you can give me a rational explanation as to why Mo and the coaches have not played Shav over the past two months (given our relative lack of options and Stefanski's edict to Mo to find out about exactly what he has on the roster) - other than the fact that he simply cannot physically get it done on the floor - then please give it to me, because I would love to see the Shav of last season playing for this team right now.

Perhaps coaching staffs make mistakes. I'm sure that's never happened in the NBA, but I'm going to say there's a possibility of that.
I hate that line of reasoning. In that casse, why should we have our own opinions? The coaching staff has a better perspective, therefore they're never wrong.
If we're just going to sit here and say the coaching staff knows better, they can't possibly make a mistake, and you can't possibly be right, why do we even have message boards?
It's the dond school of reasoning.
Another very valid reason (outside of coaching staffs being human and making mistakes just like the rest of us) is that Mo's comfortable with his rotation. He's comfortable with Jason Smith. He's even comfortable with Calvin Booth. He has his 5 man big man rotation (Evans, Dalembert, Smith, Booth, Thad), and at this point in the season, he's uncomfortable changing. It's the same reason (I believe) Willie Green continues to start, and why he went back to Evans starting at PF, after Thad started 12 of 13 games in February.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion around here...even you.
Look - I am a big Shav fan. I just went back to the threads at the beginning of last season...in particular, on page 93 ("Webber is already b*tching about his role"), I advocated - six games into the season - simply buying Webber out and giving the minutes to Shav (and I wound up getting beaten up by Sixerscan, entangot, jem and others about taking that position, but I digress...).
This isn't about a coaching staff "making a mistake", IMO. Mo was told by Stefanski (in no uncertain terms) to play the young guys, so that he knew exactly what he had going into the offseason. How is Mo following that edict by playing somebody like Booth (whose game I am sure that Stefanski knows about, and he already knows that one way or another, he'll have to pay him next season) instead of Shav?
Also - I am sure that Stefanski is at practices...if Shav looked truly healthy enough to be in the rotation, then why wouldn't Eddie be on Mo's azz to give Shav some burn? Why aren't Jasner, Narducci, Moore or any of the other beat writers writing "where's Shav?" columns (like they did about Carney)?
(I really look forward to the thread where you and I agree about something...I really do)
