I guess that makes sense, you know, to stop teams from using up all their cap space by August and THEN signing their own player.

That said, that remaining money will only buy you Ben Gordon or Shawn Marion imho.

Clipps will keep Brand (and if they don't they'll look for a lotto pick which you don't have), Bulls will def. keep Deng, Hawks just about have to keep J-Smoove, Jordan will without a doubt keep Okafor (probably to more than you can even offer per year), and even if the Wiz don't retain Gil, they'll S&T out of the East.

So, in short, you're down to Shawn Marion or Ben Gordon, as well as guys like Jermaine O'Neal, Zach Randolph, etc.

O'Neal will probably cost you Jason Smith, Reggie Evans, your 1st this year, and next year's 1st.

Gordon - well the Bulls would probably just let him go, that's their style.

And as previously gone over, Randolph would only cost you some cap room.

For my money, I'd go for Jermaine.

Agreed, this isn't looking like a goldmine year to go after a PF. I still dream that Brand opts out and then forces the Clips to deal him in a sign and trade for cap space 9a trade exception) and a player/picks.

JO would be a perfect fit next to Sam- but he is too much a risk with his injuries and 20M contract.

Had a day to digest, and now I want Zack even less.

So but you do or don't get to carry that cap space into '09?

The Sixers would carry about 1/2 of it (5-6M) depending on what Lou and Iguodala sign for.

Then they could add another 10M if they let Andre Miller Expire. Thats a lot of potential cap space.

More likely, they would make a trade during the season, using their cap space, prospects and their extra #1 (Utah's) and maybe even Miller's expiring contract to land a superstar.

Every year a couple of superstars are traded for 2 #1 picks, a prospect and an expiring/capspace. AI, Gasol and KG are recent examples. I'm sure it will happen next year, and if its the right player the Sixer's should be in great position to steal a star and make their run.

Wow, we've gone from Zach Randolph to the corpse of Jermaine O'Neal. No thanks again. Is Theo Ratliff next on the list?

Jermaine O'Neal's 29. I certainly wouldn't call him a corpse. He could potentially yield a high reward of the risk isn't too high.

He's 29 but he's a 29 year old without a lot of miles on that body since he came into the league out of HS.

Also, when you miss 47 games this season, 13 last season, 31 the season before that, and 38 the season before that... well, I think it's safe to call him The Corpse Of Jermaine O'Neal.

JON has been too beat up the past few years...a healthy JON, and I'm on board. I just think his health is too much of a risk. Knees don't regenerate (trust me on that one!!)

BTW...31 minutes, 21pts, 17 rbds, 2 blocks...BIEDRENS!!

There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

I'm amazed that this idea's gotten so much traction. The Sixers' success this year owes a ton to the team's chemistry, work ethic, and cohesion. With the partial exception of Dalembert, you have a bunch of guys who work hard, don't whine, and check their egos at the locker room door. And by all appearances (obviously don't know for sure), get along reasonably well with each other and their coaching staff.

Why risk blowing this environment to shreds by bringing in someone like Randolph? Even Artest, with his loose screws, would seem to be less of a risk in this regard.

As much as I am against it, I can see why the idea has appeal.

he is the only established PF I can think of who we pronbably could get for a song- and he is 'youthier' and gives us the inside scoring and rebounding we need.

Unfortunately he also brings his contract and other negative we definitely do not need.

I'm sure the Knicks would gladly throw in Starbury to. Maybe, if we improt enough knicks, we can improve attendance by haveing the circus after games.

What traction?

Of the handful of people that find the idea even marginally acceptable, most of them are relegating getting Randolph to plan Z.

Actually, I don't think we'll see the Knicks move Marbury since he has a $21MIL expiring contract and they seem to be gearing up for having cap space in 2010.
