Sure.

Just saying that when you have 10+ million in cap space, multiple future draft picks to barter, and other trade assets, you don't necessarily need to trade your best player to land an all-star caliber big man.

Does Iggy give you that tingly feeling inside of being "the man" on a CHIP team?

As long as we retain Dalembert we could never be the "Toronto South." If we were to trade both Dalembert and Iggy that would then become a distinct possibility.

I don't believe that the Sixers could ever "break the bank" for Bosh if at the end of the day we still have Dalembert, Miller and all of our draft picks. I would literally trade all the rest of the Sixers at once for Bosh.

Miller

That's a starting point that can propel us to title contention in 2-3 seasons.

A) Iggy does not give me that tingly feeling either.

B) LeBron, Wade, Amare, and others will not be free agents in 2009. That wouldn't be until the summer of 2010 when they can each opt-out.

Talking about Bosh being traded here is ridiculous. When has a young, all-star PF been traded within his division???

We have a 0% chance of acquiring Bosh.

A couple of things regarding this...

1 - I thought players only get the BYC tag when the team they sign with is OVER the cap. Assuming we sigg Andre before adding a 10+ mil FA, we would still be under the cap and thus he would never get tagged as a BYC player. I thought BYC tag was just to prevent teams OVER the cap from using the signing as an salary cap advantage. Is this wrong?

2 - Even if he does get tagged as BYC, assuming we didn't make a major sign, we would still be under the cap as a team. In that case, I don't think the BYC tag would hurt us for trading purposes. The way I understand BYC for trading is Andre's OUTGOING salary would be about half of his actual 1st year salary (say he gets 10 mil in yr 1, that would make his outgoing salary 5 mil)). Since WE are uder the cap, we could take on a player who makes well more than Andre's 5 mil "trading" salary. Since the other team is likely OVER the cap and is taking back less than what they are trading away, it could eaily work for both team under the cap rules.

Am I missing something here?

Oh yea, as far as Bosh...he's not going anywhere. Waste of time even discussing it IMO.

I believe interdivision trades have less to do with it than a reluctance of GM's to trade franchise big men. We don't have anything worth a Chris Bosh on this team, even if we trade our entire franchise (except Sam and Miller) and 4 first round picks, chances are that when it's all said and done Toronto will still lack a franchise big man when Chris Bosh is contending for titles with the Sixers.

See.... I don't ever see Chris Bosh being on a team that contends for a title unless he pulls a Glenn Robinson and signs with a team as a 7th man at the end of his career.

You are looking at Bosh the wrong way. You are looking at him as a focal point like Tim Duncan, Shaq, etc. I'm looking at him as a MAJOR piece of a quality CHIP level frontline. Just like the Pistons frontlines from all 3 of their championships the last 20 years. You make the move to have him and Dalembert as the frontline for the next 7 years and you concentrate ALL of your efforts upon acquiring quality perimeter players, which the NBA is filled with.

Perhaps you are looking at Bosh the same way that I am, as a "piece", but rather you just view him as a "loser type." I don't see Bosh as a Chris Webber type loser that's going to fall short no matter who's on the team with him. :noway:

this is the worst idea I ever heard. Bosh is sick but I would never in a million years give up Daly and Iggy for him. We can land a good PF for nothing but straight cash, why would we give up 2 of our core.

by the way bk, I would change your pic. Its in everyones best interest to keep politics away from this board

Were not getting Bosh, there is no reason for this topic or discussion. The fact people want to give up Iggy AND Dalembert for him play too much NBA 2K.

OK, here we go...

1) Yes, the Raptors are stuck in neutral this year. That's because that team is too jump shot happy and Bargnani is still growing as a player, despite the ramblings and complaints of the Raptor board. However, the Raps will have a lot of cap space next year with the contracts of Nesterovic, Parker and Garbajosa up. That cap space will most likely be used to sign a player or two that could help them inside. I think they actually will have more than the Sixers will have two years from now. So, they do have wiggle room.

2) The Raptors still have some assets to move to build on what they have. The Raps are not in complete rebuild mode. If they are in rebuild mode, that's the only real way that the Sixers, or any other team for that matter, can get him. Obviously, the two headed PG era of Ford/Calderon could come to an end soon with most likely Calderon being moved in a sign and trade. Kapono, for all his shortcomings, can be moved. Definitely a guy like Moon draws a lot of interest. Also, there's no real bad contract on their roster, except maybe Kapono. Rasho's contract is ending soon but he has been effective, especially recently.

3) Would Bosh be a good fit as PF for the Sixers? Yes. Does the Sixers have the means to acquire Bosh? Probably not. Bosh is probably one of the top 10 players in the league. He's fairly durable (knee problems attributed to wear and tear of playing in the summer as well) and has a pretty good attitude. Bosh's contract is also pretty fair for his contributions and low maintenance. The only deal I see being fair value would be Iggy/Dalembert/pick or Williams for Bosh and Kapono. That would really gut the Sixers though.

Do you mean summer of 2008 or summer of 2009? I believe Rasho has a team option for next year, and Garbajosa and Parker are both under contract.

Let's clarify one thing...dominant centers are directly linked to championships...finesse PFs are not.

Bosh is a nice piece, but I don't get a warm/fuzzy feeling linking him to championship runs, carrying the team on his back either. He and Iguodala are very similar in that I don't think either are saviors, but both are very good players and excellent pieces to a championship team, built in more in the Pistons mold than the Bulls, Heat or Spurs mold.

summer 2009. They're right up against it this year. That's why it's going to be tough this year for them to keep both Calderon and Ford on the same team. Not impossible but tough. However, based on the news coming about both Ford and Calderon considering themselves starters instead of 1a and 1b, one is going to be moved. Personally, Ford would be a better fit for a lot of teams because of his desire, scoring and passing abilities. Calderon's much less erratic compared to Ford, plays more under control. The problem with Calderon is his piss poor defense and shooting ability. The knock on Ford obviously is his neck. If the Sixers want one of these two, Ford would be best.

Interesting topic, I wont infer on your discussion, I suppose I consider myself a Raptors fan, but only in the most lenient of senses. One thing though;

Calderon is one of the best shooters in the league, and when he averages 35+ minutes, he's more affective then Ford in Toronto's system. Both guards suffer statistically by splitting minutes, I figure Collangelo will address the point guard situation once and for all during the summer. I get the distinct impression Ford will be the one moved.

I agree with much of what you had already posted but I don't think you know what you are saying here. Sure, he's no defender but his shooting is flat out awesome for a pg.

Would agree with that...the most appealing thing about Calderon to me is his ability to hit the 3. Of the two, I'd probably pick Calderon over Ford.
