But if your scenario leans - on the offensive end - to JSmith, can he provide the rugged, slam-dance defense in the low box that Evans (or a traditional, wide-body defensive-rebounding PF) gave us last night?
Personally, I think that JSmith would just give us more of what we already have - quick, athletic...runs the floor well...as opposed to giving us the low-post game (on both sides of the ball) that I thought many of us wanted to see in terms of upgrading the PF position.
I guess that my sense is that if we told Thad that PF was going to be his position on this team, and he spend the next year or two working his azz off at that position, I think we'd see a guy who is pretty darn close to JSmith...and we don't have to give him $67 million - yet.
I'd rather see us bring in somebody with our FA cash who has a game that we can't develop on our roster.

If the Clips win the lottery do they go for Beasley and make Brand available assuming Livingston which actually come back whole from that devastating knee injury, or do they go for Rose? Knowing how cheap the West Coast Donald is I bet they go for Beasley and decide to build around Beasley and Thornton, letting Brand and Maggette go, likely through sign and trades if they opt out. Let's hope the Clips are put in a position (first pick, or second pick with Rose going first) to draft Beasley, then do what is necessary to get Brand.

Smith isn't my first choice. I was just playing devils advocate to the needing a low post scorer bit. I also don't necessarily think the top need is a rugged low post defender. Our big men are lost on the perimeter. Sure, do we struggle against Dwight Howard? Yeah. but when you get past the very small select few, this is a faceup PF league.

I realize that money talks (obviously) but I have to believe that the idea of coming to Philly has to be more and more appealing as guys like Okafor watch tv on their couches this week and see the Sixers beating the Pistons in game 1.
At some point, I would imagine these guys sit there and think.... if they can win in Detroit without me.... what can they do with me playing with them??
Of course, money makes the world go round.

winning a round or two would go a long way to our free agency chances this offseason. I don't think, 2 months from now, free agents are going to go "man, remember that game against the pistons? Yeah, I want to play there". They may be thinking that now, but I think that gets lost in time. Winning a series or two has a chance of sticking.

Where are the Josh Smith at PF fans? How'd you like his 6 point 7 rebound 3 block shot on .300% shooting effort against the Celtics? He got dunked on and physically abused that game. Powe dunked on Smith with 2 hands. The Celtics exposed Josh Smith as a regular season gimmick player who is playing a position that he will FAIL at in the playoffs. Horford did well but Smith looked out of sorts and outmatched.

I was thinking this yesterday as well...money still is the key, but it may help to influence someone to come to town. My biggest wish is still to get a longer defender/rebounder who is any upgrade over Evans offensively. If they had a quality, long defender against the Pistons, I'd feel a lot better about their chances...you need that length inside to match up against the better teams like the Pistons.
