Change in The Starting 5

Post#1 » by Philly Family » Thu Apr 24, 2008 8:12 pm

Should we change the starting five to help Iggy get going. as he has struggled against Prince, should we start Thad at the 3 and Reggie at the 4, thus allow ing to play the 2 and be guarded by Rip instead of Prince. Would this be better? Thoughts....

Make the change right away. This way Hamilton will be guarding Iggy and Green is better served off the bench. Mo Cheeks needs to get Thaddeus more invloved in the offense.

Wouldn't they just have Rip guard young and put Prince on Iggy?

If they do, Mo better damned well run some plays for Thad down low. RIP wouldn't be able to contest Thad's shots at all. That spinning hook is isn't able to be contested by most forwards, he should have no trouble finishing at the rim with Rip on him.

This seems like an obvious move bc AI has been getting lessons by Prince on how to become a man, but I dont know if I see Mo making the move. Should he, yes, but will he....?

At the very least, I think Mo should be trying this lineup much more than in the first two games. They played two possessions together in Game 2 and I don't remember seeing that lineup at all in Game 1. It's certainly worth a shot.

Mo is set upon Thad NOT playing SF. He has shown this all season long by only playing Thad 3 minutes per game at SF while giving him 15 minutes at PF. I'm pretty sure that Thad only plays SF when Jason Smith is in the lineup with Dalembert. We want to see Thad AND Evans out there with Smith and Carney as the backup forwards and Calvin both getting 2-4 spot minutes that will result from Evans and Thad no longer subbing for one another.

Also Kevin Ollie has to play. Positive things happen when Ollie has been on the floor for the Sixers this season. Ollie's reduced playing time should ONLY be a result of Green and Williams efficient play.

I don't see why Cheeks just doesn't play Thad at SF. His handling is no worse than Carney's, who plays all of his minutes at SG/SF. This switch will help us out in so many ways. Our half court offense will be better because Rip can't guard either Iggy or Thad. Our defense will improve with Iggy on Rip and Thad on Prince. And our rebounding will get better as well. This move is so obvious, but why won't Cheeks just make it...

I wish Cheeks would just play Thad at SF not just for this series, but permanently. I mean it's obviously his long term position. Will he ever be able to block out a Ben Wallace, Boozer, Sheed, etc.? We're getting killed on the offensive boards.

i completely agree. It helps us from a defensive end too. We can throw iggy at RIP, Thad on Prince, and still have reggie and sammy down low.

This is all part of Ed's master plan...

Iggy gets shutdown, used and abused by Prince. Come contract time Ed can look back and say that Iggy was continually raped in the playoffs by Prince and thus, is not a franchise player beacuse of his ineptness. This drives his market price down and we can resign him to a more affordable contract.

Seriously though, this is the worst possible matchup for Igoudala. Prince is one of the best defenders in the league and his length makes it almost impossible for Iggy to get his shot over him. Moving him to SG isn't necessarily the best solution either. Rip is no slouch on defense and the Pistons are so quick to rotate and help out defensively that I worry that Iggy will continue to drive the lane and get his stuff sent back.

For us to have a shot to win our offense has to come from other sources. We need to run some plays for Thad in the post and Andre Miller has to come up big like he did in Game 1. Iggy looks like he's pressing too much and it might be better to get the ball out of his hands.

In all honesty, if Iguodala gets off to another slow start, I really think we need to throw Carney out there. At least Carney gives us a long range option to exploit the zone D. Yes, I know Iguodala is the better of the two players but this series is about matchups and so far, it's pretty evident that Iguodala doesn't match up well against Prince. Not sure if Carney would either but I would at least test the waters. Can't be much worse than what we saw from Iggy - on offense AND defense for that matter.
