I think Sweed was a big miss by us. I think he'll end up being the best reciever in this draft.

I think the same of Mendenhall.

Congrats Steelers....At least ONE Pennsylvania team got the guys I wanted. Hahahaha
The JB-S System....Zero Defects.

Steelers got lucky both guys fell...if they use Dixon as that 4th/5th WR for some trick plays, he could be very dangerous.

The Eagles seemed to do well in getting depth, but did they land anyone who will start? 10 picks, your star QB is getting older, and you don't really come out of the draft with any immediate starters? That would be my biggest question for the Eagles. The WR from Cal should be an immediate upgrade in the return game, but wouldn't Mendenhall or Felix Jones made some sense to back up Westbrook? The Eagles usually do really well, but I guess we'll have to wait a few years to see how this one ends up. They drafted the big OT from Auburn...physically, he's a beast...if they can tap into his head, he could be a real steal.

The NFL draft is always so hard to judge since we don't know how some of the current bench players will pan out. If we have decent players in Hunt and Justice then I am fine with this years draft. If Justice is a bust then not getting a top level OT could be an issue soon.

The team needs a big name WR, but that needs to be done through a trade.

I totally agree.

I like Jackson as a return guy, but he'll never be that big, stud #1 target that we need so badly. Sweed is 6'4' and looks very talented. Here we go again.

In 2001, Andy took Freddie Mitchell 5 picks ahead of Reggie Wayne and 10 slots ahead of Chad Johnson. So it's not like those other WRs were way off the radar. Same tier. Just like Sweed and Jackson this year.

During his tenure, Andy has never gotten the WR position right. If he works a deal for Roy Williams or Ocho-Cinco, the pick makes total sense and I will relinquish my scrutiny.

If no deal for a big WR goes down, I'll continue to watch Sweed with a very close eye.

While clearly Freddie was a terrible pick, lets try to be a little fair. Revisionist history is always fun and easy, but Freddie was the 5th WR taken in that draft. Only one of the four taken ahead of him has done anything (santana moss). I would also argue that even he is not as good as chad johnson and reggie wayne.

Point well taken.

But the 6'4" Sweed was on the board. If Andy doesn't net a big WR target via trade, I will be skeptical of that pass.

That is fair. I think Sweed will end up being the best WR in this draft. That said, I'm in the minority that wasn't overly concerned with our WR position. When looking at our redzone issues last year, I would rank McNabb still coming back from injury, the poor o-line play, and the absence of a TE as bigger reasons for our struggles.

I also think that DeSean will have more of an impact for us in the next two seasons (mostly as a return man) than Sweed would have had.

I agree that the subpar play from the OL and the lack of production from the TE had more to do with the issues with our offense than the WR position. According to Greg Cosell of NFL Films, the Eagles had the highest percentage of sacks on 1st down of any team in the league...which is a VERY bad stat for your OL. Lower percentage of esoteric blitzes on 1st down...should be the best down to be proficient in your pass play-calling...and yet our OL couldn't get it done.

Herremans had a bad year. I am hopeful that Jackson isn't another Fraley (a guy who we gave a LOT of money to...only to get locked into mediocre play for YEARS)...Andrews probably got off to a slow start because of his pre-season stuff last season...

Whatever.

Fix the interior of our OL...get production out of LJ...a healthy McNabb from the start of the season...these should all lead to better production from the WR's...

But...if Lito is still on our roster a month from now, then perhaps there still is a chance we move him and one of our #1's for "Ocho Cinco"...which I would be fine with (how many WR's did the Bengals draft?)...

Re: Lito
At this point, I would like to keep him providing he can the organization can come to some positive understanding. We did not draft a CB who will be playing this year, and I really am not thrilled with hanson as the full time nickel CB, which in today's NFL is practically a starting position.

however, if we do trade him, I really hope its not for Chad. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I don't want him on this team at all. If we trade Lito for another WR, fine. Or if he forces our hand and we have to take draft picks, so be it.
