Hill is cap casualty

Post#1 » by jmon » Mon Jun 30, 2008 7:57 pm

Plain and simple, the move saves the Sixers a realistic amount of money against the cap for this season. They can still sign him if they want. Now they just don't have the rights to match. Whatever. Now we can use the rookie minimum instead of the Hill contract(800,000) against the cap.

Salary cap info...

Chad Ford estimates an NBA salary cap of 59 million.(estimated 12.4 cap space before Hill move)
NBAPA estimates one of 58.5 million.(via Johnathon Givony's blog)

Dalembert $10,520,000
Miller $9,999,999
Evans $4,640,000
Green $3,388,000
Thad $1,968,120
Carney $1,655,760
Jason Smith $1,326,360
Booth $1,141,838
Speights $1,285,500(rookie scale number)
Iguodala $8,400,000(300% previous salary)
Lou Williams $1,001,793(130% previous salary)
Minimum $442,114
Total: $45.769484 million

58.5 - total = 12.730516
59.0 - total = 13.230516

Booth is a waste of cap space.

Hill will still be on the summer league team and if he shows well, he would get an invite to training camp. This will also hinge on who we sign or trade for to start at the four spot.

I would think that we'd have to pay Louis Williams more than $1 million.

I posted his cap hold. I did the same with Speights and Iggy.

I believe billy gave too much money away, but at least he did a good trade as his final move. Getting Reggie Evans was a real good move. Paying Willie Green among others, was a real bad move.
