Sixers hire John Nash as a scout
Didn't see it posted. Probably neglected due to this being day one in free agency. I heard it on WIP earlier. John Nash was hired as a scout for the team.

Re: Sixers hire John Nash as a scout
Yea, they reported this on comcast sportsnet late last night. When I heard it, I thought it was funny because I think someone had JUST posted something in another thread about Nash being on TV (or radio) giving some type of player/team analysis and that poster said something along the lines of "why do I care what John Nash has to say....he doesn't know anything". Well, now he a scout so I hope he knows something about player evaluations.

So we've decided to hire scouts after the draft is already over. Lovely

Re: Sixers hire John Nash as a scout
Nash was a complete loser for the 76ers. The guy replaces Pat Williams in 1986 as GM, after Williams and Katz in 1986 screwed the 76ers up so badly. They are still trying to recover form that mess. I give John none of the blame for 1986, but how do you draft Christian Welp in 1987, whose only harrah for the 76ers was blocking a shot of Moses Malone when he was in his 2nd year. I think that was it for my boy Christian.
In 1988 Nash starts out with a bang drafting Charles Smith, then trading him to the Clippers for an extra ist round pick in 1990, then uses his own pick to draft Hersey Hawkins. That was a solid move that had to be made. I got the man I wanted in Hawkins. He also did pick up Ron Anderson, which was a good move.
Then in 1989 Nash showed his ineptness by trading away the ist round pick he worked for, by giving up a ist round pick for Rick Mahorn and two 2nd round picks. That was a major blunder, when you consider Mahorn played two years for us then went overseas. To top it off Mahorn came back for 4 years and played with the Nets, before landing back with his old team, the Pistons.
Nash was not through screwing up in 1989 when he drafted Kenny Payne from Kentucy, who had no game. When the 76ers drafted him in 1989, the people in Kentucy where laughing at the pick. The 76ers started Kenny Payne for 2 -4 games until Mahorn took over the reins as the starter at PF. That year the 76ers passed on Clifford Robinson, Vladi Divac and Sherman Douglas.
To make matters worse, since the 76ers did win the divison and finished 34-7 at home, Katz never fired Nash. Nash left the 76ers next year to work for the Nets.
Here is a guy who said on radio this week, after the ist 5 picks in the draft, he did not know much about any of the players in the draft. Is this a guy you want to hire? History can repeat itself, if you allow it to happen. Next, maybe the 76ers will bring back Jimmy Lynam as the GM. Lynam was our GM around 92-94. Lynam was the man behind Shawn Bradley, lol

He gave Ed his ist job with the Nets, so Ed is giving something back. Why not give the job to somebody else, who is not a retread. The NBA is never going to change.

P.S- A funny 76ers moment occurred after the conclusion of the 1995-1996 season. Upon the removal of John Lucas as coach and GM of the 76ers, Lucas said, "the 76ers have turned the corner". Just for the record they won 18 games, lol. This is the same John Lucas that drafted Sharon Wright in 1994 and picked Jerry Stackhouse over Garnett and Rasheed Wallace in 1995. Way to go, john, lol . It can only happen in Philadelphia.

Re: Sixers hire John Nash as a scout
Is he evaluating talent or is just an advanced pro scout? There is a huge difference. The advanced pro scouts just go watch a team we are about to play on our schedule and provide a blueprint for what that team likes to do offensively etc.,,, I'm guessing he is going to just be used as an advance scout, Stefanksi already knows what the pro players abilities are.
He definitely won't be involved in the draft thus the term pro scout. He will be fine as an advanced scout that is a role Bob Salmi used to have with Washington I believe.

If somebody brought our team bad luck, you never bring them back in any capacity. You wash yourself out of these people. The NBA is a recycle league. It should not be that way. We like new blood when it come to players , why not when it comes to coaches. You always hear the word experience thrown out there, but that is the NBA's way of playing the recycle game over and over and over.

Re: Sixers hire John Nash as a scout
OH! Ok...you mean like I was trying to drop that info? Hahahahaha...no let me clarify:
The reason I brought that up was in response to the discussion that it's a carousel of personnel in the NBA. I just meant that they've known eachother a long time, and have a tremendous amount of history...And the only reason I know that is because my Dad was talking about it recently.
In fact, he didn't know either of them all that well. Nash was his paper boy and he only knew Stephanski from around the way. Wasn't trying to drop names or anything.
And if I were to drop names I really hope they'd be better ones than this! hahaha
