if they did indeed get an 11 mil trade exception it's potentially not a bad deal. they have a year to use it and it's a tradable asset. They possibly will not use it however they possible have other deals in the works. Based on what I've seen this offseason and others is that cap space is like gold so Denver's isn't necessarily finished.

While I don't disagree with your assessment of our need of a great shooter that can nail the kickouts from Brand, I wonder where you assessment of AI dominating the ball comes from...do you think he dominated the ball in Denver last year? All of the statistics support the position that having another truly dominant player on his team led to many less shots (and a much better shooting percentage) and a dramatically better ast/TO ratio. The guy that I saw playing in Denver last season looked very little like the "AI is a PIG" player that was here the last couple of years. With another dominant scorer here and a MUCH stronger roster than when he left, why are you so sure that he goes back to dominating the ball - particularly given that his most recent playing experience for a season and a half in Denver does not support that position?

Just out of curiousity, not that available $$$ for free agents as evaporated, how will things play out with the remaining RFA?

Are any of them likely to accept their qualifying offers and opt to become UFA next off season or opt for the luxury of a six year deal?

Could Childress sign a mid-level deal somewhere?

Most will sign deals. The fact is they stand to loose significant money if they don't. Not signing last year was not as big a deal because those contracts wouldn't go into effect until this year. Regardless of them signing or not their salary was already predetermined. This year is different. For example let's assume Iggy's going to sign for a starting salary of $10M. His qualifying offer is only about $2.5. He looses $7.5M that he will never get back.

If someone signs him to a max deal next off-season he will have gotten that money back easily. He could sign for a deal starting at about 13.7 million with 8% raises from another team, so he could sign for 5 years, 80 million. Including the 2.5 he makes next year that is 82 million over 6 years if he took the qualifying offer and got a max next summer.

The sixers offered 5 years 57 million, so he could clearly make more money if he were confident he could get the max from another team. However, I don't believe any team would offer him that, so it would certainly be advantageous for him to accept the sixers current offer.

However, in the Josh Smith case, he reportedly was offered something like 5 years, 45 or 50 million. If that is the highest offer currently from the hawks, it is definitely worth it for him to risk waiting until next summer. I think he could easily fetch something in the neighborhood of 5 years, 65 from some team.
