How far will the 76ers go in 2008-2009?

Post#1 » by is1531 » Sun Aug 31, 2008 6:04 pm

I think the 76ers have enough talent to win the NBA crown in 2008-2009. It's been so long since the 76ers had depth on the roster which they have now. My polls have shown that Marreese Speights will have the 2nd biggest bench impact (48%) on the 76ers, but they also show that Willie Green and Joker Evans will have a smaller (14%) impact in comparison to Speights.

I think the 76ers will go 10 deep this season, but in reality I do believe that players 11 and 12 can put some gravy on the meat. Over 44% of the voters polled say, the 76ers will win the title. Another 32% believe they will win 2 rounds. You make the call.

let us be realistic.....i know the sixers are a much better team this year than last year but winning the title is a lil out of the reach. they need to add one or two more pieces then we are good to go

i can see the sixers winning 49-52 games and reach the ECF at best......2nd round exit is more likely but ECF is a good possibility. anything more than that would be a big surprise to me

Sit back and enjoy the surprise because it will come this year. Just get Comcast ready for major action. :D :)

Of course we cannot expect a championship, or even a finals appearance. But there is no denying the talent on this team, and anything can happen in the playoffs. It's not as if we're an aging team and this year is our last shot. There are many good years to come, this is just the beginning...

Boston? Yes, Detroit? Maybe. The radical fan in me wants to say hell to the no, though.

I went through the schedule once and came up with (to my surprise) 54 wins. If I were to do it again I could easily come up with a different number, but I think anything less than 50 wins would be a disappointment.

I'd say EC Finals, but you never know. Who would have thought that the 6ers would absolutely smoke the Pistons by 20 in the playoffs last year, even just one game? Not me. What if Atlanta had beaten Boston last year and the 6ers had the team they do now? The Finals wouldn't have been unthinkable.
Anything can happen (good Or bad), and with a little luck they could end up in the finals. They do, however, have to go through Orlando. That'll be a battle of wills that I look forward to watching.

I have no doubt that the East is better over last year. If Washington can stay healthy they will win more games. I have the 76ers winning 52 games with 20 road wins. If the 76ers win 54-55 games that would mean they would need a winning road record to achieve goals of 54 wins, unless they went 34-7 at home which would be difficult. :D

Once this team learns how to play with the addition of elton brand, they will most likely be the 2nd bes team in the east. That is very realistic. I believe that only the celtics will be heavier than them. Last year in the playoff this team did major damage to pistons, even though they won, philadelphia showed that they had the potential to hang with the top echelon teams in the east. I honestly belive the ECF is a very realistic dream, but the nba finals isnt out of their reach either for 2008-09.. As long as injuries dont derail this team, they'll be something very ver serious in the nba for the next 5 years and also as long as they keep andre miller also.
I'm not a philly fan but i am a mo cheeks fan and i can honestly say that they are one of my favorites this season.

50-32

Thats prob good for the 4 seed. Meaning we play the 5 seed (aka Wizards, Cavs or Raptors). We win.

Then we play the winner of 3-6, which for example could be Orlando. Maybe we win.

In other words.

Dissapointment = 1st round knockout

Expectation = 2nd round knockout

Exceed Expectations = ECF or NBA Finals

unfortunately the nba doesnt reseed like the nhl or nfl so your actually stuck playing the 1v8 winner in the 2nd round...i still dont like the nbas playoff structure which is for a different debate on many levels and this is one of them

When it's all said and done the 76ers will be standing as the champs. The poll has them with a huge lead right now to win the title. :rockon:

Hopefully they not only make the playoffs, but win a series, but I doubt they get out of the second round. They not only need more pieces, but they still need some existing pieces to mature and get better and the team as a whole needs to learn how to play together. This is all presuming that there are no devastating injuries. In my opinion, that's the realistic goal - get to the second round, show promise and potential - go 6 to 7 games with a very good team - one that possibly makes it to the finals, and build on that from there.

After 88 votes 43% or 37.84 votes, these people think the 76ers will take the title. Only 11.44 voters or 13% think the 76ers will win only 1 round. For the rest of the results you can check the poll. We have a lot of confident 76ers fans on this website. I say title for the 76ers.

They'll come in at the 4-5 slot in the playoffs and get beat in the Eastern Conference Finals by the Celtics. I think the Celtics rule the East for one more year then they're done.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
