Do we have the best teaching team in the league?

Post#1 » by Carmelo Anthony » Thu Sep 4, 2008 10:30 pm

I usually don't like to start new topics but I feel this is a good one to discuss...

Do you think we have the best teaching team in the league? And by that I mean do you think we have the best lineup of veteran players at each position to teach our young guys a thing or two?

At guard we've got Andre Miller who I feel is very underated by many people, He's able to play at his own pace and within his means and still exceed. We've got Donyell who in his hey day was a servicable forward with a decent shot. Ratliff, a defensive minded center who can block shots and defend his spot while most of the time fiving up a lot in strength. Evans one of the best rebounders I've ever seen...

What do you guys think?
Walk the city lonely
Memories that haunt are passing by
A murderer walks your streets tonight
Forgive me for my crimes;don't forget that I was so young
Fought so scared in the name of God and Country

Right now... I would say yes. If Cassell and PJ Brown stay in Boston then I would say the Celtics have the best teaching crew with Garnett, Pierce, Allen, Cassell, and Brown. Phoenix is also fairly close with Shaq, Nash, and Hill.

Yes but I think your giving credit to the wrong people. Vets really have only minimal impact on young players. AM adn EB will be teachers but the other vets are going to be worried about getting PT. I know they all said the right things when they were here but they are competitors and this is there job. AM adn EB have secured there role on these team. I though you were going to credit Mo and his staff. They have done an undeniably fantastic job at getting our younger players ready to contribute. So far that has been Mo's strength.

i disagree. i dont think that Ratliff and Marshall have any illusions on their role with the team. they have to know in signing for the vet min they will be used sparingly and i agree with the thread creator that we have the potential for great teaching environment for our youngsters. our vets were brought in speciically to add the veteran presence to teach guys like lou will, speights, and thad. As a coach i completely rely upon my vets to game coach my youngins during the game. i am too busy with game managment to sit next to them and point out the nuances of game action. Practice is a different thing, that iswhere the coach takes over and the vets role as a teaching asset defers to the general. teaching patterns , deficiences and adjustments during the game is so important for athletes of any kind becuase usually the athlete is a much better visual learner and to have someone discuss these ideas real-time is so valuable to a coach. so short answer, yes we have the potential for great learning environemt. that is one of the main reason Ed signed these guys. Also come playoff time, Ratliff and maybe marshall will be called on more due to thier experience. resting them while keeping them in shape during the regular season is essential for a quality playoff run. The celtic example was a good one. Powe and big baby obviously benefitted from having the veteran presence of Pj, and beleive it or not Scalabrine, Cassell who i am sure taught him so good dirty tricks. Never underestimate the impact veteran has on a team.

i do agree with your assessment on Mo. It will be even easier now that he has more veterans at the end of the bench instead of Amundson and a broken down shav

I think you need to change your screen-name or use proper-nouns instead of pronouns.

I would go with San Antonio. All of their core guys have multiple championships. I would say Detroit is 2nd with their core of veteran starters.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
