Pressure on Mo?

Obviously we've talked at length about how this is the team we'll see for the next 4-5 years and we're basically entering "win-now" mode. Although I am knocking on wood (because it's rather hard to type with crossed fingers) and hate to even suggest this, what if the Sixers start out slow or Elton doesn't mesh as well as anticipated. Realistically, how much pressure is Mo facing for this season to improve from our record last year? Would anything under 45+ wins cost him his job? Let's be clear, I love Mo. Loved him as a player, loved him as a coach, even loved him as a singer (Portland national anthem incident). I only wonder if Ed looks at the coaching landscape next summer and sees a guy like Avery Johnson or some other experienced coach and decides that's what it's gonna take to get us into the Finals? Mo is an excellent coach who seems to be well liked by his players (except Darius Miles) but I think it's safe to say there are some coaches out there who the Ed could view as better motivators or X's & O's type guys. I am not suggesting this will happen it just occurred to me it's a possibility and I was curious what the rest of the board thought.

Mo has a TON of pressure on him mainly because of the following formula...

High Expectations + 1 Year Contract = TONS OF PRESSURE

The only way his pressure will be relieved is if Stefanski gives him an extension on top of the one he got toward the end of last season. Otherwise, Mo is going to have to yet again show that he deserves to be the head coach of this team.

I would not go as far as you did calling Mo Joe an excellent coach. He is a coach with his share of flaws. Actually if the 76ers get knocked out in round 1, Mo Joe would probably be history, unless Ed makes a foolish mistake and gives him a 2 year extension during the season.. Let Mo Joe show us what he has to offer, then we talk extension after the season.

I'm the biggest Mo Critic so everyone here knows my stance. This year he's gotta show us something special either in the regular season or in the playoffs. This team now has decent shooting from the bench, legit size at the 4/5 and good offensive options. For them not to mesh is primarily on the coach.

People say "Coaches Coach" and "Players Play". And sometimes that works, like the U.S.A Redeem Team. Sometimes it doesn't: Why Coach K refused to go 2 Man big is BEYOND me. We were getting brutalized in the post during the medal rounds.

Wow! I don't know if I would go that far. Personally, I think he'll get an extension during the season if the Sixers are playing decent ball so I think the pressure will really be on Mo between November and February. If this team is slow yet again as it was in the two previous seasons, people will be calling for his head.

Only reason I say that is if they really valued Mo he would of gotten more than a year to finish turning things around. The one year deal just proves they're not sure if MO can take them where they want to go.

Mo has a lot of pressure. All coaches of teams that are expected to make the playoffs do. If Mo wins 46 to 50 games and gets this team to the second round of the playoffs, his job is safe.

gotta go with mo.pressure??..you call this pressure?! he has a great staff...lynam,etc. and will have fun coaching up this young team of runners( not gunners) and defenders...heres to a excellent season.thanks for the back in the day memories and future ones too!

I think Mo will be fine. Doc Rivers just won a championship a year after being outcoached nearly every night. It just takes the right blend of players more than anything, IMO.
