Let's be real, though. Questioned by fools. Simmons' defense was elite at LSU. 2nd best defender in the entire conference behind Alex Caruso that year.

Yeah dudes have no clue, actually the draft thread on Ben covered literally everything good and bad back in 2016, defense, shot, ethic issues the whole nine yards very eye opening.

Report and from the eye watching he was lazy but when he wanted he was the best defender for his size and it wasn’t even close.

But how much talent do you have to basically F around and get 19/12/5 in College while being a monster defender on a whim.

Not the first or last sportsmen in any sport to significantly underachieve relative to natural talent.

Pointless discussing his game as it’s not going to change

The only issue with Tobias is his contract

Unfortunately, that can’t be changed either

He'd probably be fine if Harden came on board. He wouldn't be asked to do as much in terms of creation and could just focus on scoring assisted buckets. Still not worth his contract, but what can you do?

He’d have to let it fly from 3 if Harden came. I doubt he would have enough volume.

His scoring went from 16ppg to ~20ppg in the last 5 years

In 17-18 he averaged 18.6 ppg on .565 TS
In 21-22 he's averaging 18.7 ppg on .559 TS

The arrow stopped going up for him a while ago. He is what he is. You could even say he peaked in LA, but I look at that more as simply an outlier shooting stretch.

Im looking at 2016-2021 because 2022 is not yet done and who knows maybe he’d average 20-20+ By this season.

Nevertheless
2015-2016: 16ppg
2016-2017:16ppg
2017-2018: 18.6ppg starts becoming very efficient scorer
2018-2019: 20ppg
2020-2021: 19.6ppg with career best defense

Compared to player B, Tobi’s improvement is way more evident don’t you think?

First of all, it's very convenient not counting this season to help your case. But there are times where just the numbers don't remotely tell the story, and Tobias would be the poster child.

Fit has to be considered, and with all the advanced stats you guys are a lot better at analyzing than me, the forgotten eyeball test. He is clearly a square peg here, and just watching him night in and night out makes it clear how little impact he has, despite his numbers. For all his faults, and they are numerous, Simmons had so much more impact on regular season games than Tobias could ever have.

Finally, comparing him to a guy who can't shoot is quite a convenient way at building up any player. But I'd guarantee that if Simmons returned after the trade deadline, even without shooting his impact night to night would dwarf that of Tobias.

Probably not, and the juice would definitely not be worth the squeeze. However, he'll be left on an island with probably the third best defender and will be able to abuse said defender. Say what you want about Tobias (and there's a lot), but he has pretty decent touch and can get to the basket easily when he's not a focus for the defense.

Yes but getting to the basket and finishing is a whole different kettle of fish.

We are talking about a player that got it in the post in the Hawks series vs a smaller player, did a wacko jacko moonwalk backward to the 3pt line with five fancy dribbles then passes it off to Curry with 7 secs on the shot clock.

I mean the last quarter game seven he missed two gimme ones by doing that pussyfoot 3ft floater bs thing that he constantly does lol.

Ingles is out for the year.

Wonder if Utah would consider and Ingles and Bogdanovic for Harris deal?

They should as Ingles is an expiring & basically worthless at this point

I know nothing about Utah’s roster construction or salary cap, but they traditionally have trouble attracting free-agents. Tobias is overpaid, and I wouldn’t want him, but if Utah found him useful, maybe he would be an option for them.

Both teams are over the cap so that trade adds a bit of tax to Utah and saves us a bit

Jazz were allegedly interested in Tobias before he re-signed here

They need a PF but their most pressing need is perimeter defence

As a card carrying member of the Tobias the basketball player is more or less pointless crew, one of the benefits of moving Simmons in a Harden SnT is that Harris playing off Harden and Embiid could actually be useful and could make sense as otherwise you basically forfeit use of Harris' salary by doing the cap gymnastics to get Harden in any other way. Of course getting a rookie scale contributor like Halliburton would allay those concerns but it looks like Morey's not going to be able to get a rookie scale contributor as part of the Simmons deal since the Kings are basically saying no and there's no other obvious candidate interested in Simmons (Edwards isn't happening).

Building on this idea...

NOP gets Clarkson and Milton
PHI gets NAW, Satoransky, Ingles, and Bogdanovic
UTA gets Harris and Thybulle

And building out further...

DET gets Ingles, Springer, and 2022 PHI 1st
NOP gets Clarkson and Milton
PHI gets Grant, NAW, Satoransky, and Bogdanovic
UTA gets Harris and Thybulle

Maxey/Satoransky/(Simmons)
Curry/NAW/Joe
Green/Bogdanovic/Korkmaz
Grant/Niang/Reed
Embiid/Drummond/Bassey

Big time stats from Tobi tonight in a big time win.

Clearly THAT has to sway Sacto to take him? Or Dallas? San Antonio? Anyone? Bueller?

I like how he played in the Grizz game. He faced a couple of great defenders in JJJ and Kyle Anderson. He also generated a lot of pts off PnR.

Washington wants to dump Dinwiddie apparently.

Harris, Bassey, Milton, and two 2nds for Dinwiddie, Bertans, and Bryant?

Maxey/Curry/Springer
Dinwiddie/Korkmaz/Joe
Green/Thybulle/(Simmons)
Niang/Bertans/Reed
Embiid/Drummond/Bryant

I'd be willing to roll with that into the playoffs. Or maybe you can add a 1st and Springer and re-route Bertans to DET for Jerami Grant?
