Don't ruin this Bryan.
Although, if there are deals not involving the 4 players in the picture from today (and Saric), than fine by me.

Kudos to Colangelo for not giving up both picks. But the protections actually benefit Boston. Essentially we get the Sacramento pick unprotected and if LA falls between 2-5 we get an Extra shot to guarantee a Top 5 pick.
The way I read it is you get 2-5 next year or you get Sacramento's unprotected. I don't think you can possibly get both.
Yes its only one pick. I am just referring to why the protection benefits the Celtics.

I love the trade, I just wish there wasn't the 6-30 non-protection on the Lakers pick. I'd rather have the Kings unprotected '19 pick then a 6-30 pick from Lakers next year.

Not much else he can do before the draft. Probably the Celtics, but not us.

So lets say the lakers get the 6th, it becomes the Sac pic, and what if the Kings get the 10th pick in 2019? Who knows. So many variables.

In theory the kings could be a lot better after this and next year's draft which gives celtics a late lotto pick in 19
Hmm, that means you're counting on the Lakers being the 7th or 8th worst team next year? That' the only way we'd have less than a 5% chance at keeping the #1 overall next year. Could happen but you seem more certain about it than you should be--Nets and Kings are the only teams that seem as bad as the Lakers now, and they both also have a lot more cap space to blow this offseason. I'd say we have a 12-15% chance of keeping the 1st pick (the odds if the Lakers finish with the 3rd or 4th worst pick) and probably about a 60-65% chance we lose it since it's in that 2-5 range. Short of an early Paul George trade, I don't think the Lakers have a clear path to being better than the Nets, Suns, Kings, AND two other teams (maybe ORL?).HeadEast76 wrote:We just gave up most of the 'upside' of our 2 best draft assets (I believe our philly picks will have less draft value than LA/SAC over the next 2 years - hopefully we're in the playoffs). Yes - we protected next year's #1 (I'd guess a that's a <5% chance for the LA pick)
