Having a fetish for wings in 2025 is like having a fetish for bigs in 2013.

It’s outdated thinking that ignores where the game is headed.

High skilled bigs that allows you to play double bigs
2-3 and maybe even 4 guard units.

To further my point.. I’m not saying there’s zero need for wings. Just like in 2013, there wasn’t zero need for bigs. But the trend has shifted. We’ve reached the “Tower of Babel” era for wings, where teams were giving up four 1st round picks just to get one. Asking value for DFS reached 2 first round picks.

The key difference now is that the league allows much more physicality on the perimeter. That shift has empowered 6’4”–6’6” guards to offer as much defensive value as wings, while generally providing more offensively. They can defend bigger opponents, pressure the ball full court, bring it up themselves, handle better under pressure, pass more effectively, shoot more consistently and attack 1-5 PnR better.

As a result, teams are playing more guards. And once you’re playing multiple guards, the situations where you have to play double bigs start to increase. But to make double-big lineups work in today’s game, both bigs need to be highly skilled, ideally with shooting range, otherwise the offense becomes clunky.

I'm not gonna go that far; but this feels like a big hedge against Joel not playing next year or having a repeat of playing a week and then out 3 weeks. Better to get subpar play from a rookie at $2mil than subpar play from a washed vet at $5mil.

And maybe he’s the Drummond hedge, essentially a best case version of Drummond. You still get the offensive rebounds and stocks, but unlike Drummond, he’s not a zero on offense.

your wings have to have some guard skills or power forward size and be able to shoot

Yes. And its hard to find them thats why the cheaper alternative are these two way guards.

Most times its guys like Flemming and Thiero who have questions on shooting and sometimes even putting the ball on the floor.

You just killed any buzz I had about all the youthful fire and dog mentality by reminding me he is still on the roster. Reality is a cold slap in the face.

OREB, STL, BLK & Low TO; efficient scorer and gets other high % attempts with his passing.

I would say the ceiling for Broome once he gets settled and earns minutes, would give you production similar to Claxton based on my personal metrics which I'm perfectly fine with.

Yeah, Chaz should feast on the open looks he'll get from Cunningham's gravity. Still was hoping he would have made it to the next pick and San Antonio.

Even if he never becomes a threat from 3, he needs to improve his FT shooting if he's going to see the floor in big spots.

I really don't like this new CBA. It would be fine if they instituted a franchise tag. I just hate that teams can draft really well and no matter what they do, at some point, they are going to have to move on from one of their hits b/c they can't pay everyone.

If not a franchise tag b/c god forbid we prevent players from getting their bag and then demanding out. Maybe a weighted system; like only 80% of a homegrown talent's salary counts towards your cap. If you rely on preying upon other teams to find your stars (Lakers) the cap is 110% of the salary.

The NFL has the same issue. This current CBA is basically a hard cap. Owner's are afraid of someone like Balmer not caring about how much he spends. A salary cap never has anything to do with parity, it has to do with how much money one can make.

Wow, I had checked out of the draft and just saw that Jahmai Mashack was the final pick in the draft, going to Houston. Totally makes my night. This kid is one of the best on-ball defensive players on the planet, can guard 1-4, makes a ton of hustle plays, and is a pure dog. If he can develop a consistent corner 3, he is going to have a long career in the league because he does so much more. One of my favorite Vols ever.

Always considered that those Bonus players get from All NBA Selections, etc should not count against the cap. It's not fair. Even less if it's homegrown talent.

It's stupid to punish teams because they drafted great players. It could get to the point teams sabottage their own players chance to win an award.

If nothing else we got some great names there.
