I don't think it's very controversial at all that we should trade Tobias if his value has rehabbed that much to be seen as positive. But I am skeptical of that. The only downside to the move would be if we're just gaining cap flexibility to not be paying luxury tax and losing a rotational piece but not replacing it with other production. That being said, it would probably give Morey a lot more space to build a stronger team next year.51X3RF4N wrote:Is it time to consider trading Tobias?
Yes, he's playing at an All Star level. Yes, his history with Doc as a coach makes it seem like this will be the new normal for him. Yes, when he plays this way he is a great fit with Embiid and Simmons.
BUT...he is still owed a massive contract. He is still not a shot creator or true perimeter threat. He could still revert back to his old habits from last year, including his horrid playoffs.
What if his value is at an all time high right now?
Would Daryl consider a move, and would Doc approve?
What are some likely targets?

Ok so let's say you can get Otto Porter Jr for Tobias, in theory as the main piece of a deal.76ciology wrote:51X3RF4N wrote:Is it time to consider trading Tobias?

For the right package, yes.
Let’s say you can get expiring and picks for him.
That would really cripple our team on crunch time and short term. Because he is the only reliable scorer on our team after Embiid.
But if I can get Bradley Beal for him, that is a trade that would make more sense

Totally clear Tobias from the books.
With only Embiid/Simmons/Curry/Thybulle/Maxey/Milton/Joe what salary number are we able to offer to free agents?

I like this trade for the Sixers. Our backup point guard sucks. Rose would be a Hugh upgrade for a playoff run.
See...this is interesting to me.youngcrev wrote:51X3RF4N wrote:Ok so let's say you can get Otto Porter Jr for Tobias, in theory as the main piece of a deal.76ciology wrote:

You'd have around 80M in salary committed for those 7 guy, and then minimum salary cap holds on top of that (like 5M or so). Projected cap is 112. So mid-to-high 20s is what you could offer. Might be enough to get you a Tobias Harris level player...
If a true max guy would be willing to come you probably move Curry somewhere

Morey didn't give Tobias that contract.
Morey is not known to be loyal to his players, the way Doc has been. This could be interesting in terms of Morey vs Doc for who ultimately has the final say.
Embiid is an MVP level big. Simmons is a DPOY level player. An elite perimeter creator/scoring threat is the 3rd piece needed for this team to be true title contenders.
But you can't get that type of guy if you have Tobias on the roster with his salary.
And you won't likely find a Tobias trade that makes sense.
But 2021 free agency has the potential of:
Kawhi, CP3, Lowry, Oladipo, Jrue
That's the likely top 5 targets for the Sixers.
How did Kawhi feel about his time with Doc? Would he like to play with Ben and Joel? Is he already fed up in LA? Chances are, Kawhi will NOT be an option for the Sixers.
CP3 will be 36 and isn't really what the Sixers need from a perimeter scoring option.
Lowry makes some sense, but Sixers would still lack a clutch go-to guy.
Jrue makes sense too, but similar to Lowry, who takes the big 3pt shot when needed?
Oladipo is damn near perfect but has eyes for Miami.
So if you don't think you can land any of the big FA names...is it even worth trading Tobias for an expiring??
Or...can you use that $27M to grab 3 role player types to put around Joel and Ben??

Ben and Tobi are not playing like 2nd star. Between the two, Ben is likely to be valued higher to get you a second star.
Biid, Second star and Ben or Tobi, would pretty much solve the problem of this team.
Second star, a guy who can carry the offense whenever Biid is not playing or is on the bench while also be able to compliment Biid.

It sure isn't happening with the Wiz

Beal + our current group of players minus Embiid and Simmons is much better than what the wiz have.
