Hes close to Morey so he may know something. Also he sayed Houston is in no rush to trade him because he has 2 years left in his contract.

When you think about it, Morey absolutely loves Harden. He can offer Ben and beat any package offered by other teams. I think we are by far the most likely destination for him.

Yup been saying that.

Im sure Rox will call us before doing any Harden deal.

They want Ben.

"But I think Biid, Harden, a 20ppg player and a borderline star big is a great building block for a championship team."

Didn't 3 of those 4 pieces get manhandled 2 months ago by Marcus Smart and Kemba Walker lmaooooooo.

Harden is super amazing and a gamechanger. Him and Embiid are not close enough. This roster is much too inbalanced, bogged with albatrosses with no depth yet to mitigate it all for a 31 year old. It's like a step above Billy King throwing himself into the fire to get those washed up Celtic HOF'ers and his championship moment was Pierce blocking Lowry in game 7. But ultimately it was for nothing, and they crippled their future.

If the 76ers were continually an impressive team that were just a singular upgrade away like the 2016-2018 Raptors, I'd feel more comfortable making a cataclysmic move like that. I don't see it with this roster at all yet. It's too soon to make that leap.

At least having Morey gives you some sense of security. Imagine having still Brand trying to figure out how to be a GM.

The offseason trade of Chris Paul (and draft considerations) for guard Russell Westbrook boosted the Houston Rockets’ odds of winning the NBA championship by about 30 percent, according to GM Daryl Morey, who cited internal calculations.

“Now is our best chance,” Morey told Bleacher Report’s Howard Beck about his team’s chance to win the NBA championship

Maybe, maybe not. That could simply be Morey playing "the good soldier" taking one for the team.

There was, and is, a lot of noise out there about how the Westbrook trade was all Harden and Fertitta.

Our GMs should have been doing this for 5 years. ughh

IMO there are two ways to build a championship roster.

- (inequality) 2 to 3 mvp caliber guys and role players (almost all champions); the built morey loves
- (collective) 3 to 5 stars and role players or maybe one big star and a handful of weak stars (think pistons and the last 2 spurs squad that made it to the finals); Bucks is going for this built now

I think the mistake was going for the “collective” built (2018-2019) then double downing it last offseason (2019-2020).

But then.. i dont project biid, ben and even Tatum (if we ever drafted him) to be good enough to be MVP caliber guys. Just think about it.. can you win a championship with Biid, Ben and a bunch of 3&D players? Biid and Ben has to be at AD and Bron’s level to make it happen.

I feel like the right move was to explore trading Biid and Ben and do the route the Lakers (traded all their young prospects for AD) or the Celts (the year they traded picks to get KG and Ray) did.

Like if we traded Ben for Kawhi then traded Biid for Paul George, then you kind of have a championship favorite last year.

And after last year they both would have walked to the LAC and we'd be left holding the bag. No wonder you like Elton Brand so much advocating moves like this.

I’m excited to see what Morey can put together in lieu of Simmons. Sounds like a long shot but color me intrigued.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Watford/Barlow/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

There are no assets Morey has or can acquire to send in lieu of Simmons. He is probably still lowballing the Rockets and is looking for follow up moves or alternative moves in case someone offers more for Harden. Such rumors also help to not alienate Simmons in case the trade doesnt materialize.

C'mon man, what else is he supposed to say

It's commonly known that Tilman Fertitta motioned for that trade to happen against Morey and D'Antoni's wishes for money reasons and not anything basketball related. It's the biggest motivator that led to the internal collapse of the team and pushed the aforementioned staff out.

It’s not impossible the Sixers could get a LaVine with Richardson and picks, and the Rockets then for some reason fall in love with the idea of LaVine putting up crazy numbers with a 35 USG rate while they tank. Or if not LaVine, maybe CJ McCollum? Evan Fournier? Andrew Wiggins? Victor Oladipo?

While I agree it probably will end up being Ben, and that’s fine... I wouldn’t completely rule it out. 5% chance.

Just seems like if the assets of another team are doing the heavy lifting in the offer they should just trade for Harden themselves? Nothing is impossible I guess.

Ok.

Biid for Harden. Ben for Dame.

My point is we can trade both guys with MVP caliber guys and be a championship favorites.

Still.. morey said it himself. RW trade increased their chance for a title by 30%.

There was one podcast when a guy said Fertita wanted the RW deal. Morey had to call the guy to tell him that it was a group decision.

*that article is where that podcast was based.

Morey could have stayed silent. He could even not say that their chances to win a title increased by 30%. But he did.

Im not shooting down morey. He is a great GM. Better than all our 3 GMs, combined. Its just people make mistakes and we should be comfortable and realistic about it.

Let’s not get distracted. My point is Harden and Biid is a championship team.

Ok. If you dont like RW. Then Biid is better than CP3 on his last legs. And CP3 and Harden almost beat the warriors.

Normally you’d be right; but Harden wouldn’t play for Orlando or Indy or Chicago IMO.

He has to support his guys. I'm not sure what you wanted him to say. It's not realistic to expect Morey to be unsupportive of the team owner, or to drag the players he has new connection with.

The goal of last summer of Morey was to get out of paying luxury taxes. A move that could only be accomplished by trading either of Harden or CP3. And CP3 was looking burned out coming off of bad injuries in back to back seasons. There were no real suitors for Paul especially with that contract and Harden was their cornerstone. It coincided with WB requesting a trade after PG made his move to the Clippers. It was the only real option Daryl had to keep his team somewhat competitive while also accomplishing the request of Fertitta to get out of that red zone. Morey had to spend a desperate amount of picks to make the deal happen with Presti because he had no other options. Your boss tells you what to do, you do it.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/rockets-owner-tilman-fertitta-is-hellbent-on-reducing-payroll-avoiding-luxury-tax-per-report/

But if you want to 100% believe in the words of Morey, then you can pick and choose

Sell high and then sign Kris Dunn who essentially does the same thing but can dribble and pass.

It is generally very hard to have such an evaluation discrepancy and lack of communication that arbitrage would make sense in the NBA environment. Beyond that Wiggins is terrible, Fournier is not better than Levert, CJ is nothing to right home about and the Blazers would keep Harden for themselves. Oladipo is a question mark and too old for a rebuild and Lavine is still not really the player Houston is looking for. Whatever the case may be either the team that has the desired player could get Harden to keep him or re-sell him or the Nets for example could offer more than Richardson + picks and do it themselves.
