what if we take on Gortat as incentive? make him our problem to trade.

Noel and Hollis for Porter/ Gortat.

They resign Noel. We resign Porter.
They start Oubre. We start Embiid
We flip Gortat for whatever - include some of our trusty 2nds to help get the deal done.
Everyone's happy.

This doesn't make sense. If you accept that Porter is worth more than Noel (which you seem to have done given the post you responded to), it's an even worse deal to include Gortat. Gortat is an asset on his current deal - he's making roughly 12.8 mil a year the next 3 seasons and he's likely worth significantly more under these cap conditions. It should not be a problem for them to trade him if they desire to.

The framework should be something like:
Porter -> phi
Noel -> team X
Pick/s -> was

Balancing out in some way.
Given the Was cap next year and having Oubre to figure out, even Was has its issue to re-sign Porter imho.

I think it is difficult to trade an injured player. Whether they are waiting for him to get healthy to trade him, or waiting for him to get healthy to trade Okafor, they can't trade someone that is injured.

I mean you LEGALLY can, but it is difficult to do.

The Ratliff Mutombo trade in 2001 was a major league exception to the rule.

1. Who are they giving up that makes it worth it for us?

2.What happens to Gortat?
He is under contract for 12M this year and then 12.7M/13.5M in the following seasons.
Also, they inked Ian Mahinmi to a ridiculous deal. He's on the books for 16M a year for the next 4 years.

Noel hypothetically makes a ton of sense for that team, he'd be a great fit with Wall......but I can't see them trading a wing for him and then spending nearly 20M a year on another 5.

Maybe they trade Gortat and we are able to get a pick and Oubre for Noel

Was thinking the same thing. Even if it ended up just being Oubre, if they like Oubre then we could do a lot worse.

I like Noel but I don't like paying a lot of money and his attitude/mentality that he is more than what he is.

Currently, I think that our starting line-up with Biid then having a offensive inclined second unit of Sauce-Saric would be much lethal with Noel anchoring the defense than now with Okafor who is still finding ways (and has shown improvements) on how to provide much better on court impact.

Bayless, sauce, Hollis, Saric, Noel is a great bench

Not sure if it is. Bayless, Stauskas, Thompson and Saric aren't the best defenders with Bayless and Stauskas real reliabilities on the perimeter. In addition the dribble penetration is completely dependent on Nik Stauskas. He has to show it over a longer period to conclude that he's able to create offense for an entire unit. So far he's mainly effective after kick-outs when he's able to attack the closeout, if nobody penetrates the defense or is a post threat there's no reason for Stauskas' defender to collapse and that means no closeout available.

Truth be told. MOST TIMES, 2nd unit nowadays are place holders for the 1st unit where 2nd units will just exchange baskets. 1st unit is defensive oriented. 2nd unit is offensive oriented. Then teams close it out with their best unit or their deathball unit.

Noel playing with defensive liabilities should max out his abilities (just like 2013-2014 team) while Saric, Hollis, Sauce and TJ or Bayless can space out the floor to let Noel roll to the basket for easy baskets.

How much of the game really involves 5 bench players out on the court together? Especially in any kind of game that matters. Much more important how they compliment the starters individually.

At this point IDC that Jah has been the better teammate. Noel fits better with the 2nd unit and quite possibly pairs better with Embiid because he can chase athletic guys around the perimeter. Noel as the backup 5 with some minutes playing next to Embiid could be enough minutes to make him happy. Defense could be stifling with Embiid and Nerlens on the court together.

We were always going to trade him.

I don't know why some people have had difficulty accepting this. Some people here have been rubbing their hands with Glee at Okafor regressing thinking that somehow impacts Noel. It doesn't. Embiid is our starter. Embiid will be playing 30-35 minutes a night for us eventually.

Noel has no future here. The only thing Okafor struggles illustrate is that maybe Okafor doesn't either.

Just hope the package we receive for NN is half-way decent. He's gone, it's just a matter of where.

man, i'd like to see Noel play with Simmons. Nerlens himself went on about how good they played together. sorry that he chose to be so despondent about the situation before we had a chance to get them all out on the court. it's all fine to strategize based on "fit" and analytics, but you can't really predict chemistry. (who knew that Nerlens would so much prefer Ish to his old buddy MCW?)

Noel the player is alright but def bigs who can run the floor aren't exactly unicorns in todays NBA. I think ORL regrets signing Biyombo to that deal already as will any team that signs Noel to a max money deal.

I've actually grown to the idea of a def big backup Embiid mainly because Okafor been such a disaster this season but not for max money. WCS looks pretty appealing for that role. Wonder what it would take to pry him. Likely not a whole lot.

I still think both Noel and Okafor are gone eventually. Both see themselves as starting centers long-term and thus both will want starter's money when their rookie deals are up. Obviously it isn't going to happen here as long as Embiid stays healthy, so we might as well get what we can for them ASAP.
