Ben Simmons is going to have the countdown like Chris Jericho and have a countdown during player introductions like

I'd argue we'd be acting to the detriment of his longterm health by NOT playing him this year. Having him sit an entire year and throwing him to the wolves next year and expecting him to take on the rigors of a full season with that increased body weight is asking for trouble. Let him get a shortened season, dip his toes in the water, and let his body begin to adjust to the NBA.

I was fine giving him a few extra months off. But it is pitiful if he doesn't play and he hasn't had any setbacks and there is no health benefit to him not playing this year.

The thing is if he did have any setbacks, we wouldn't know at all. We get no updates at all with BC and whatever comes out of his mouth is crap now. I don't trust anything he says now, he is a great bullshiter for sure.

Was working out from about 1230am to 230am at the practice facility, seemed to have been running on the treadmill and stuff live on Instagram. I really do believe that this is just blatant tanking - he seems physically fine, he had only been removed from being on his foot for a few weeks, I could have understood a few extra weeks of rehab to get back into shape, but this is beyond reasonable excessiveness.

I just don't buy that they are tanking....this is just a case of an incompetent FO putting blind faith in an over exuberant medical / sports science team. It's a joke.

I don't buy it, I suspect that it's much more likely and common for teams to tank than it is for, well, that.

Well sure...Real GM always mistakes incompetence for tanking.

Yeah I understand. It's like that time I accidently fell into a pool full clothed and got drenched. I wanted to walk home and get changed but it started pouring with rain and I really didn't want to get more wet.

Being too broad. I'm not going to defend Colangelo as not being incompetent or incompetent in facets of the job. I don't think that we've seen enough yet to make that judgement, of him here at least, but even if he is he can still understand the benefits of tanking, especially given this draft and our needs.

This seems like tanking to me.

When do you think the tanking started? Around the time Embiid went down with the injury?

It would appear to me that is the most likely case as it's also around the time Simmons disappeared off the face of the Earth as well.

Tanking has never been about resting rookies to ensure losses. Playing a rookie PG is just as likely to hinder the team as help it in the short term. Such a narrative is what you would expect on the GB.

Sure, there's an incentive to tank but we've all seen tanking. Tanking is not signing FAs and trading vets for draft picks. If the team goes out and trades end of contract guys like Noel, Ilyasova and Henderson for picks then maybe I'll start buying that. But at this stage it just looks like bad advice coupled with management out of their depth.

Here is why I believe the Sixers won't play him. There is no time left and we are on the road for 1.5 weeks during the prime time for him to come back. No home games for him to make his debut.

The All-Star break ends Feb 24. Brett Brown said he needs AT LEAST 5 sessions of 5 on 5 basketball. Lets assume he does 7 scrimmages. They won't be day after day... so really you are looking at 2 weeks MINIMUM of 5 on 5 before is able to play... absolute best case scenario.

So where does that take us. 11th March. Take a look at our schedule. We are on the road for 9 days straight from March 7th until March 16.

Does anyone think Simmons is going to his debut anywhere other than in Philadelphia? Of course not. That basically leaves us with 2 opportunities:

* March 6 againt the Bucks at home (Only 10 days after the all-star break.... and remember Brett says he needs "More than 5 x 5 on 5 scrimmages before he can play". So no way in hell.
* March 17 against Mavs at home.

March 17 is more likely but is it worth it? Only 15 games remaining in the year at that stage and 2 back to backs... means he will get in 13 games maximum.

I reckon they've looked at the schedule and gone too tight and not enough benefit to get out of bringing him back in for only those 13 games. We will see though.

Season ticket renewing opened up yesterday and ends 3/24. I have a sneaky suspicion that's the timeline until we get real news about Ben. Ownership wants to feel comfortable with the number of STH renewing for next season...wait until we sign on the dotted line and then drop the bomb of Ben not playing this season.

I feel sorry for you guys between Embiid and Simmons (although Ben should be fine, I'm worried about Joel) It sucks that both our franchises are way behind with horrible luck. NY and Philly has such an amazing, intense rival. I hope you guys get healthy and the Knicks get a new owner then fight it out for years to come

Not trying to start a fight but what exactly is the bad luck that has forsaken the Knicks?

Nothing taken, I'm not here for anything but hoping for the best, I appreciate an intense rival. But come on man LOL have you hard of James Dolan? Single handily the worst thing that's happened in NY sports history.

Oh I got you. Yeah, that was sort of my point - the Knicks failures are born from incompetence and not bad luck. Knicks fans, however, have suffered from the bad luck that of the all the rich playboys that could have bought one of the most storied franchises, you got stuck with that moron.

Absolutely true, god only know how long us Knick fans are stuck with this crap. You guys on the other hand just need your guys healthy and Philly becomes an attractive place to build around Joel. Best of luck!

I agree with this, although if this is the case, just COMMUNICATE. If they reasonably explain their motivations that it's simply not worth the risk then the majority of the fan base will be disappointed but comprehensive. This radio silence is cancerous and making room for rumors and speculations.
