Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft
I really think playing for the Bahamas national team gives a floor raising type evaluation for Edgecombe. He looked very good with Hield and Ayton and the stats confirm he belongs.
Now that we have the height and wingspan, the final question that decision-makers have to reckon with is if he has the frame to put on quite a bit more muscle.
Otherwise, he's my "I feel comfortable" pick at 3. He'd be able to play immediately and provide a huge boost in effort plays along with transition offense.

Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft
why is there such a gap between media perspective of ace bailey (mock drafts have him going to us at 3) and all the smart people here and on twitter?

I'm not sure about mock drafts, but media figures are obligated to have an opinion on everything and sound confident giving it. They tend to go with the consensus opinion or default as a contrarian because it doesn't require a lot of time.

I'm pretty sure that unless Harper falls, he's the pick. Fits a lot of the Morey profile stuff. You just have to wish San Antonio falls for the Ace Bailey hype, but I think they're smarter than that.

Edgecombe would be a phenomenal selection (in a vacuume).
He's second to only Bailey in terms of athletic explosiveness and he's does it all (rebounds, defends, score, and passes).
The only hesitation is organization fit with him likely only being about 6'3" or 6'4". We already have Maxey and McCain and are likely looking to extend Grimes longterm. We need SFs and PFs, not more PGs and SGs.

Ace Bailey: terrible analytics
Tre Johnson: low 2FG%, bad defense
Jeremiah Fears: roster construction (subject to change if one of Maxey/McCain are traded)
If for whatever reason Harper fell, it'd likely be him as the pick. Otherwise, I think Edgecombe or Kon make the most sense statistically. I think Morey values players who can finish at the bucket.
I love VJ Edgecombe. I just wish his arms were longer. I don't know what the ceiling is of a player with his length, unless they're playing PG.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Collin Murray-Boyles seems like the safest pick for us IMO.
He projects to have a major impact on winning at the next level and he's at a position of need.

Front row better watch their heads.

Yea the 6’7” wingspan is nice but I think I’d be more excited if it was 6’9”+

Agree but taking players for fit this high in the draft almost never pans out. If you think he’s going to be an All-Star and/or Ace will be a bust, you can’t take the latter.
My worry is that Morey/Nurse will end up relying on Oubre, George, Edwards, the TMLE to man the forward spots. I’m tired of getting abused there by more physical and athletic teams.

Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft
I hate being at #3, of all places. My two favorite players in the draft (Kon and Jaku) are reaches here, and there is no one else who jumps out if Harper doesn't somehow fall to us. If I had to make the pick at 3, I'm going with Kon as the high floor/winning player pick or I suppose Tre or Maluach for the potential upside.
Best of all worlds would be a trade down with the Wizards for #6 and #18 if they fell in love with Bailey - grab Kon or Jaku at #6 and then BPA at #18.

If his wingspan was 6'9+ we'd be talking Dwayne Wade. Maybe Edgecombe is a more explosive Josh Hart.

Yea and even Oladipo and Mitchell were 6’9”+, so VJ will have to make up for his borderline SG size with athleticism and skillset. His bag isn’t that deep but you have to know he’s a hard worker before selecting him.

"Don't overthink it" seems to be the current war cry of all the Sixers fan NPCs today. I guarantee you that all these "don't overthink it" Ace Bailey guys trash the organization for not overthinking the Simmons and Fultz picks.

ExplosionsInDaSky wrote:Harper if the Spurs pass or decide to trade, but if we stand pat, I think you have to really think about Tre Johnson. I like Edgecombe from an athletic POV, but athleticism is not sustainable and guys get injured. Bailey is another guy I want to like, but there's so much doubt surrounding him right now and I feel like he could have durability issues as well as disappearing acts when we need him the most. I don’t know why but Johnson and Queen look like very durable and readily available players at any point. NOT SAYING WE SHOULD TAKE QUEEN, just saying that durability is important and neither Queen or Johnson need to rely on athletic abilities to impact the game. I feel like with world class athletes like VJ, they do get hurt, but injuries are impossible to predict. Again, I know nothing.
It's okay, I'll say it for you - we should take Queen.
The durability component can't be understated.

Kon "Nipples" with the big brain move, avoiding the combine. He would probably get exposed with his pedestrian athleticism..
