I like this. I always said Jah could be good coming off the bench. All he needed to do was check his ego and buy in. Okafor does seem to be a good teammate so if he's cool with coming off the bench and not making a big scene about it like Kanter then this could be a role he could excel in.

Only thing I've seen on this is the tweet you posted. Was it sore as in his body was sore after a good layoff between getting up and down the court or was it the knee that was sore?

Wow so Jalil is OK with coming off the bench even with Simmons out...

The only thing that matters is his minutes.

Brett Brown will be fired if he attempts to play Jah anything less than 30 minutes once he's healthy. We need scoring more than anything at this point with Simmons out and Jah is still the best at getting buckets on our team.

Great news. Okafor is fine coming off the bench. Straight from his mouth. It's good to see him check his ego and know starting isn't what's best. I really think he can be useful for us if he keeps this mindset and doesn't pout if he's sitting to end games and only plays 20-25 minutes. It's easy to say though so let's hope he can do it when he's actually sitting. Okafor is proving to be a great teammate. He might be a good 6th man.

I hate him so much less off the bench. I loathe the idea of him as a starter or at the 4 but as a future 1st big off the bench? I can totally work with that.

I'm not sure why we would ever expect him to not accept coming off the bench at this age. He is 20 years old, and has shown no difficulty in his personality at all outside of losing his cool to a few drunken hecklers.

He is also a smart basketball guy, and I would think he would understand that Embiid is a better player, and he plays the same position. He must know that he has some work to do if he can play the 4.

He also probably knows that he hasn't shown the fitness level to play at the same energy level for big minutes. If he starts the season playing 24-26 minutes at a sustained energy level, and Noel gets traded before Simmons comes back, I expect that his minutes would then go up as he gets more accustomed to the change in roles.

He's never going to be elite, that's ridiculous to hope for, but if he can get to be about average than he should be a net positive player - especially coming off the bench. Okafor should score at will against team's backup bigs.

A lottery pick who has been the main guy on the court all his life doesn't have a problem with coming off the bench is quite surprising. His age being that young but appeasing only adds to it .

In a vacuum I agree that you would expect that HE would expect to start, but given the current context, I think it isn't that surprising.

He is 20 years old, and behind a better player at his natural position. That is a reality that I'm sure has sunken in on him.

He also may have the quiet confidence that the cream will rise to the top, and that he will be fine in the long run if he keeps improving the way that he improved last year. He has always been a team first kind of guy, and good teammate.

Well, one way to look at it is if Jah isn't really OK with playing off the bench. Then I hope he treats it as a challenge to be a better player than trying to complain things in public and faking an injury to not play with the team.

Tanked a whole season to get a backup Center.

OR tanked a whole season for a perennial 6th man of the year candidate? Kind of kidding but he could feast offensively on backup bigs for stretches. I also think he's a good teammate and is fine with it at this point in time but will be interested in how it goes moving forward.

“I’ll be fine,” Okafor said. “That won’t be a tough adjustment for me. I came off the bench a couple of times last year.”

Brown’s focus is not necessarily on how Okafor starts the game, but how he finishes. He would like Okafor and Embiid to be able to play together at the end of games to give the team a fourth-quarter boost.

“If it ends up you’ve got Jahlil coming off the bench and he’s going against backup five men, you think you probably have an advantage there,” Brown said. “If he does anything, he scores the ball, he scores buckets, he gets points. You can see how that can be a really nice role for him and for us.”

Yup, also something I've said.

My gut feel is we try to play tall ball to end games or try to catch-up/pull away against opponents with Simmons, wing, Saric, Jah and Biid.

You are the same guy who said team can't hit on every lottery pick and Okafor being a backup center is exactly what you hoped for this whole summer. Just stop making any more comments on Okafor pls its quite enough.

There have only been 3 players in the last 3 years that are the kinds of guys that you tank to get, and we have two of them. The other being KAT.

There is still an advantage in tanking, but the real difference making, foundational types of players are what you are shooting for, and there are no guarantees.

Another way to look at it is that tanking in 2015 enabled us to get Simmons the following year

Okafor as Enes Kanter is about right. As for what I hoped for, you are incorrect. Okafor is a backup talent, but I never hoped for Okafor to be the back-up Center. I hoped they traded him and got something at another position that was more valuable. But since that didn't happen, him being the backup Center is about the best role for him.
