Im fine with the Redick signing assuming he would make good impact on our youngsters but if I could choose I may prefer try to sign McLemore or Waiters on a real bargin deal for one more year.

Waiters isn't signing a bargain deal. Some foolish team is going to overpay him. I'm just hoping it's the Lakers.
jonjames is a signature bet welcher.

Froob, please tell me what you're going to do with your front court. Horford's 31, was trick-or-treat throughout the playoffs. Second, you should have traded the three pick for Noel straight up. Next: Hayward makes no sense with your current roster even if you get him. You should have gone for Griffin or Ibaka. When you signed Horford, you were committing to 'win now'. And you might luck out with the Fultz trade, but that all depends on how good or bad the Lakers are this year. I just don't understanding loading up with small forwards.

Lol the third pick in the draft for Noel who went for a pair of seconds? Doesn't matter what Horford wants, team can do as they please.

Griffin wasn't available and Hayward is the best player on the market. Ibaka would be a great fit but isn't worth what he's getting paid. Front court will be a weak spot but it is what it is. Zizic would have been a top ten pick in this draft but he'll be a rook. Team badly needs another guy aside from IT that can reliably score and Hayward is that guy.

There's also talk that Millsap is either the runner up to Hayward OR if things really went our way Kelly gets sign and traded for Millsap. But...we'd have to hope Kelly wants to play there and they can find a reasonable number. Team isn't realistically contending next year and Hayward will age well so makes sense to me.

The Millsap signing changes things. If Hayward takes the fifth year ($30+ mil) with Utah, then Carmelo could have been Plan B. In which case Zeller's release ($8 mil) is a big deal to make a trade with the Knicks.

Zeller plus Crowder would have put you at $14.7 mil, then piece together another $5 mil to get to $20 mil. Plus some sort of pick(s). Now I don't think you can make a trade for Carmelo.

Yea. Plus, While Waiters had a solid year in Miami last season, I want him nowhere near my young team.

I don't understand the Johnson deal at all. Why not wait? George Hill is rumored to be looking for a 1 year deal. Throw a max offer at Porter.

At least Redick filled a need. We have so much depth at PF. We needed another guard or a SF not a PF.

I agree that waiting to see what a guy like George Hill may want to do would make some sense, but offering Porter the max would not have been a good move, IMO.

Key this offseason is doing 1 year deals to preserve cap space for the Summer of '18.

That said, it seems like some pretty good players may be left without a ton of options and so maybe the Sixers could have gotten a George Hill or Rudy Gay on a high dollar, 1 yr deal instead of signing Amir Johnson. Either of those guys probably would have brought more to next year's team.

None of those guys are big men and probably cost more than 1/11. Clearly they wanted a veteran big guy on a 1 year deal that would take small enough offer so they would be able to still renegotiate Covington.

Seems like they're planning on moving Okafor and wanted more depth at the 5 with Embiid and Holmes.

Agreed on everything except Porter. He's an underrated star. He does everything for you plays tough defense rebounds shoots. He knows how to play off the ball too. It's a shame we never really even tried. I'll be pissed if SAC gets him. Talking about SAC they are doing quite nicely for themselves had a great draft making smart FA signings. Kind of hope the LAL pick conveys for us next year because they'll be decent in two years I think.

He's only 30 but he's got the mileage of a 33-35 year old. He's played 13 seasons I believe.

I heard from NBA TV that he was the last HS player to enter the league. He was a second rounder on the last year players were allowed to jump from HS to NBA.

I have seen it referenced a couple times that we are saving cap space to negotiate Covingtons's extension. Don't we have bird rights on him?

48 minutes at Center
48 minutes at PF

Embiid, Holmes, Simmons, Dario, Johnson

How are minutes being allocated? I see Embiid playing 28mpg so that leaves 20 minutes for Holmes. Where is Johnson getting minutes? Stand by on days Embiid doesn't play/is hurt? When Holmes is in foul trouble?

At PF you can sell me on Simmons and Dario playing other positions besides PF. You can sell me on Simmons having a minutes restriction. But again where is Amir getting minutes from here?

I don't have a problem with the idea of adding a Johnson who helps push you to the salary floor and is a veteran. He only played 20mpg for Boston so I don't think he will see that (16-18). But where is he getting time from? Pretty expensive on call situational player. Even if you trade Jah. Holmes is the one looking over his shoulder as I'm sure he wants at least 20 minutes. And as fans you want to see that too with a guy like Ben who connected on him all last summer. Granted it's summer league but you get the idea.

I guess that Holmes and Dario could be backup 5s, if Amir gets waived.

BC isn't doing that, even if I think he should.

Yea, you gotta think he will get more burn on nights Embiid is out (if were still doing the B2B/Min restriction thing) and then will just be there to push the competition level w/Holmes,Okafor,whoever else, at the 5 spot. Also, god forbid theres another injury in the front court he gives you a stable presence capable of giving you good minutes and production.

At the end of the day they clearly wanted to add another veteran to the locker room.
Johnson:
-Adds depth to the front court(durability concerns still loom there).
-Can play minutes at both the 5 and 4.Can be a starter or bench player.
-Has been a positive above replacement level producer on the floor throughout his career.
-Elevates the competition level in the front-court. Competition can bring out the best in a young player fighting for PT/Role.
-Experience can help develop our young bigs.
-Helps get you closer to the "salary floor".

I was not a fan of this signing initially, but after digesting things and looking further into the stats......I am good with the pick-up, especially since its only 1 year. Ideally he gives some decent minutes here and there, never has to start w/ a healthy Embiid and his presence in training camp/practice lights a fire under Holmes/Okafor/Etc and forces them to take there games to another level.
