No, ditch digging is probably safer than playing 48 minutes straight in a professional basketball game. Especially if you're an 18-21 year old who has barely played and didn't have much of a training camp.

I highly doubt that. It’s a game, and they’re professional athletes. Plus, there’s two subs. So no one is playing 48 minutes straight of anything.

Alright, well me and Doc Rivers will hold this incorrect opinion together. I feel pretty good about it.

"We’re going to play players tonight that haven’t played a lot of minutes. When you’ve got seven bodies, someone’s going to have to play 40-plus minutes. That’s just not for today; that’s long-term health with the accumulation of games. … I’m actually more concerned about that than I am, actually, about COVID. And I am concerned about COVID; the league is and everyone else is, as well. It’s a lot of stuff going on.”

Doc also thinks Ben Simmons doesn’t need to shoot the ball, he has a history of talking out of his ass.

Of course it’s not ideal, but one game isn’t going to kill anybody.
always a jump shot away.

Doc is correct. Young top level athletes have exactly ZERO to fear from COVID. There's far more risk to them of accumulating significant injuries due to being overused because of how the league is "handling" things.

Sounds good, his opinion of Simmons shooting the ball definitely disqualifies him of any other NBA related opinions. You've convinced me to believe the much more reliable opinion of RealGM posters when it comes to the grind of playing 40+ minutes straight in an NBA game; something very relatable to the people frequenting this board and completely foreign to 12 year pro, future HoF NBA coach Doc Rivers.

Imagine how much money you’ll make when you bet for the Nuggets -5 before they announced that Biid and Ben will be out

I don't think thats quite true. They have little to no risk of dying but plenty of players have had pretty steep drops in production post Covid. Just off the top of my head Westbrook, Scott Kingery in the MLB, and Armstead in the NFL was in the ICU if I remember correct. ****'s forreal.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

Great. And from here on out, I don’t want to ever read you questioning anything another NBA player or coach does, since you never played or coached in the NBA, cool?

I'm talking long term effects. There are virtually none for young, healthy, top-level athletes. Having your performance impacted for a little while is not a big deal, as it happens w/virtually all injuries.

I agree the risk is that the athletes will pass on the virus to others who are vulnerable. They themselves are not vulnerable by any relevant statistical measure.

Weird response since I'm allowing you to have your opinion.

Even weirder since this argument is a uniquely specific to understanding the grind of an NBA game that can only be formulated by either playing an NBA game or coaching the players that play the game. Since I have done neither, I have adopted the opinion of someone who very much has. It's definitely a different conversation than something that is measurable such analytics or lineups.

I for one am super pumped to see these young guys get a chance to play! These guys are conditioned athletes. They can log 40 minutes if they need to. It does suck in terms of record and playoff seeding. As of right now, we're looking pretty good despite it being so early. We're going to get marched tonight by Denver, and that isn't good, but like I said...Seeing guys like Joe, Paul Reed, more of Maxey might be a silver lining in all this.

What’s even weirder is you pretending you weren’t being condescending and sarcastic. But you got it man.

Wasn't pretending that; it was definitely sarcastic. I adjusted my stance to the "ditch digging" hyperbole tone that was set.

Oh it's definitely awful. Von Miller of the Denver Broncos called the disease a “surreal” experience and said he struggled at first to work out. Paulo Dybala a soccer player of Juventus, described severe respiratory problems. Boston Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez suffered myocarditis, inflammation of the heart, during his bout with COVID-19. Emmanuel Sanders, Zeke Elliott, Andy Dalton, Mo Bamba....They all said it kicked their asses. I think Mo Bamba is still dealing with lingering side effects from it. Has he even played this year?
Ben O’Donnell, an Ironman triathlon competitor, was on a ventilator after contracting the disease caused by the virus. He still has lingering effects.
